Do you think americans talk weird?
- yes, but that's ok, we'll accept you anyway

Do you eat kangaroo meat?
- I've tried it

Whats vegemite?? (it sounds like the name of a dangerous chemical haha)
- yum yum yum yum yum, I have it on toast daily (only a tiny little bit though with quite a lot of butter)

Is there cheerleading and gymnastics in australia?
- Of course - but not as much cheerleading as over there

How about ice skating?
- Yes, but it is very expensive - around $18 australian for a few hours.

Horseback riding?
- absolutely

How often do you go to the beach?
- not often myself, but there are heaps of really good beaches if that's what you are into.

Do you listen to the same music as american people?
- yep

Does australia have alot of different races?
Which ones?
Heaps - every race you can think of.

Where is the best place to live in and Why?
Depends on what you like. For me it's too hot if you live higher than about 1/2 way up Australia, so below half way is best.

Where do the rich people live? (like beverly hills in america)
Different in different cities. In Sydney, mostly on the North shore, or around Bondi Junction, Queen's park.
Anywhere close to the beach I guess.

Are the private schools good there? Which ones?
Yes, depends whether you want religious or not, and if so, which religion. There are also some selective public schools that you have to past tests to get into. They are selective based on different things, eg: braininess, sporting ability, performing arts, etc... They are usually pretty good schools too. There are a lot of discipline problems in a lot of the other public schools. (I'm a teacher).

What clothes do teens wear the most there?
Currect fashions :)

Are there kangaroos hopping around everywhere?
There is a wildlife park near where I live with free entry and they have heaps of kangaroos. If you go to the country you will see them hop past.

What's a bogan?
The word is not so common as it used to be, but generaly describes someone who is working class, with bad fashion sense. Some times with a "mullet" cut - also often referred to as a "westie".

Driving age 16, 9months - In NZ, (where I'm from) it's 15 - or at least it was 10 yrs ago when I moved here, they were talking about putting it up, I don't know if that ever happened)'

Yes to the merc, bmw question

No, most of us like American accents
I don't eat kangaroo meat but many do. I don't like it. Can be bought in every supermarket.
Vegemite is our national spread. It's black, savoury and salty and is very much an acquired taste.
We have gymnastics but virtually no cheerleading.
We have ice skating but it's all in indoor rinks. Nowhere in Australia is cold enough for an outdoor rink even in winter.
Lots of horse riding. I have horses.
Depends on the person and where they live. Many go to the beach every day.
We listen to a lot of American music and also have a very good music scene of our own.
We have many Asian, Indian and middle easteners but not many people of African descent though more come every year. Of course, we have our indigenous people too - Aborigines
I think the best place to live is Brisbane but many will say Sydney, Melbourne, Perth or a hundred other places. They'e all great.
Rich people live on the Gold Coast, on Sydney's northern beaches and close to Sydney Harbour and a number of other places.
We have hundreds of great private schools. Too many to list.
Depends on the teen. The weather is warm so it's mostly light and fairly casual but teens who have money are very well dressed in designer gear from all over.
No, kangaroos don't hop around everywhere. If you live in the city, you'll only see them in zoos and wildlife parks.
A bogan is uncultured, uneducated with poor taste. Something like trailer trash.
Unaccompanied driving age is 18 in Victoria, 16 in South Australia and 17 everywhere else.
Yes, Mercedes and BMW are our nice and expensive cars here too.
And you didn't ask, but our drinking age is 18 everywhere.

G'day, Miss couture.

Yes, Americans do talk 'weird'. For one thing they don't use adverbs.
I sometimes eat kangaroo, usually barbecued.
Vegemite is a concentrated yeast extract. It's great on toast, and I remember reading once that a jar of vegemite can be found in more than 90% of Australian households at any given time.
Cheerleading and gymnastics certainly exist here, although I don't think cheerleading is anywhere near as popular as it is in the US.
In most parts of Australia you can only go ice skating in purpose-built facilities, and it isn't very popular. It exists though.
There is plenty of horseback riding about, and horce racing is a very big industry here.
I don't go to the beach very often at all. I'm not what you'd call a beach person. There are great beaches here though, if you're into that sort of thing.
Pretty much the same, yeah.
You mean as in races of people? Well technically all humans belong to the same race and further divisions are purely socially-constructed. But there are people from all over the world, if that answers your question.
Well the best place to live is surely just a matter of opinion. So, Adelaide.
I understand a lot of rich people live in Sydney's North Shore.
I've not spent a lot of time in Sydney, so I'm not familiar with the schools. In general Australia has a pretty good standard of education.
Oh, all the usual teen clothes I suppose. I mean it varies, doesn't it? Some teenagers wear jeans and T-shirts, some wear shorts and singlets, some wear 'designer' clothes. That's another thing Americans do, they use nouns as adjectives.
There aren't kangaroos everywhere, but you normally don't have to go far out of a city to find them. They're considered a pest in many places.
I suppose a bogan is a bit like what Americans refer to as 'white trash', although with perhaps less emphasis on the 'white' part.
At 16 you can get a learner's permit, which allows you to drive only if a licensed driver (who has held a full license for, I think, two years) is sitting in the passenger seat. You have to hold a learner's permit for a minimum of six months before you can, after satisfying certain conditions, obtain a provisional license which allows you to drive on your own. And on both the learner's and provisional licenses there are other restrictions, and more severe penalties for traffic infringements. Thats's all for South Australia; there are some variations between states.
And yes, Mercs and BMWs are expensive here and widely perceived as being nice.

♥liv
Depends really, some do some don't.

It's not like beef or pork that you'd have pretty often but it's served in some restaurants or in burgers some places.

Vegemite is a spread for toast/sangas (sandwiches) it's brown and has a pretty strong taste, you either love it or you hate it.

Gymnastics - I did it from when I was 2 till 16 (17 now) and there's not that many people who do it. In Victoria (my state) we'd have everyone from level 7-10 all in one session cos there's only maybe 5-6 level 10 and a few more 9s then a few more 8s and so on. It's pretty popular for little kids though, just most drop out when it becomes competitive.
Cheerleading - not really. There are dance schools that do it, a friend of mine does it and goes around the world somewhere at least once a year to compete, but it's not like in US where theres a team for every school.

Ice skating doesn't really happen too much, I think there's maybe 1 or 2 centres for it in the whole state.

Horse riding happens a fair bit, a lot of people here live on farms or out in the bush so quite a few people have horses.

I have a beach house we get to maybe 4 or 5 times a year, but it's a fair way away, I still go to other beaches just for the day maybe once a month, but I don't live very near one. If I could I'd go everyday.

Music - a lot of your music comes over here, a lot of it's ****. We have a pretty good local music scene so we have Aussie music along side american and uk and whatever comes over.

There's a lot of asians A LOT. and melbourne has the biggest greek population outside of greece. fair few middle eastern people coming over too nowadays, but still heaps of aussies to keep the balance.

well melbourne is a awesome place to live, hot in summer, cold in winter though. Sydneys crap, nothing really exciting there just the landmarks all the tourists love. QLD is good, more tropical. Darwin i like also, it's not as big as the other capitals, and always 30degrees C plus.

Ummm rich people in Vic would be Toorak I guess. Or in Sydney there's actualy i don't really know lol.

Private schools I wouldn't have a clue about, rich kids go there to try and get a better score for VCE (year12) but the thing is private school kids almost always do worse than the public school ones at uni.

I guess the clothes would be similar to usa. jeans, shorts, thongs (not the underwear, thats a g string, thongs are what you call flip flops), t shirts, singlets, idk.

no kangaroos in the cities but out on the highway it's not unlikely to see a heap or even hit one at night.

Bogan - like a 'typical' aussie, wears a bluey and short shorts, thongs or moccasins all the time, always has a beer in his hand, has a beer gut, maybe a mullet.

You can get your learners when your 16 but to get your Ps (you can drive by yourself) you have to be 18 most places but in Queensland and maybe anothere state you only have to be 17.

PS - Drinking age is only 18! Woooo.

9. Well, I live near Newcastle (2nd oldest city in Australia) and its very peace-full and quiet. I love Queensland too.
10. Well, the movie stars live on the famous strip in Queensland (like Nicole Kidman).
11. People say private schools give lots of education, more than public schools, but after seeing the results in the HSC, public schools aachievedbetter results.
12. Alot wear all that gangsta ****, emo and scene. but more people wear bboard shorts(usually if you live on the coast, u see alot of boardies.

1. I'm in America right now and yes the eaccent is different but not weird... im so used to americans because 80% of our media back home is Aus is American so there is litte novelty.
2. No not on a daily basis- most aussies have never tried it, it's too expensive nd more of a tourist trap- plus it is very tender.
3. Vegemite is a yeast spread for sandwiches and toast- I have it every morning for breakfast.. but not too much otherwise it is awful. It's Australia's penus butter- it's in every cubord.
4. There is gymnastics but only cheereading in one of our football codes. Definetly NOT in schools. It's mostly seen as sexist and is annoying because they get in the way.
5.yes- but only indoors in big cities. Not very popular at al.
6. Everywhere- have you seen the man from snowy river? We also have the leading world eqestrian team and amazing horse races such a s the melbourne cup and hero's such a pharlap.

8.Very similar but we also have a steady rock/alternative scene and artists such as Jet & Missy Higgins.
9. Yes- the same as america but with many less latinos.
10.i'm biased- Melbourne: the best fashion, coffee, nightclubs and bars, sporting events, surf beaches such as bells and chilled beautiful people.
11.Rich people live in Byron Bay, lots of celebrities and millionaies- in NSW closest to Sydney.
12. yes a mazing schools: In melbourne for example you have Xavier and Geelong grammar (where prince charles went for some time) Tuition is around $35,000 per year.
13. Similar to the states: but many more thongs (flip flops), shorter shorts and trackies!
14.No- not where most people live. However a 30 min drive out of melb and chances are u might run over one.
15. Bogan is like a jackass but not as bad- very little culture, education and it slobby but harmless. Better then homeless tho.
16. 16 but only with somone with their full licence (21 or lder) otherwise it is 18
17. Yes- but the reall australian car is the holder commodore and dont even mention ford... it's crap!

Squillions of great places - depends on the lifestyle and work you want
Where do the rich people live? (like beverly hills in america)
There's not really anywhere like Beverly Hills (actually you'll be extremely disappointed if you visit Beverley Hills in Sydney) - usually waterfront areas are a little swankier.
Are the private schools good there? Which ones?
Yes
What clothes do teens wear the most there?
The usual - not much different from any other country (like America/UK)
Are there kangaroos hopping around everywhere?

What's a bogan?
Someone who's a bit rough and perceived as uneducated.

njss
american english a give away ---people will know your from north america but pleasant to the ear even if it does locate your back ground.
Kangaroo meat----taste gamy but good for you as not fatty---roos probably could not travel so far and jump if overweight. Also not expensive. Vegemite a salty paste made from meat and has lots of vit B not sure about vit C but very much doubt it anyway good if you are active.....Races---probably all of them but in certain areas even shops have asian writing and names so lots of asians. Rich areas abound (we're a lucky country) have wider streets and large avenues of trees that sometimes even reach across also near the beach which is usually very expensive....Private schools ----I have heard that the catholic ones are very good as the discipline stricter ! With teenage wear jeans are probably the go cut off in the hotter tropical climates. Kangaroos you don't see that many unless you are travelling on interstate roads then you can only travel during day light hours other wise you may damage your car and yourself by hitting one on the road-----goats and cattle can also be a problem. A very few are kept as pets in the back yard but this is exceptional. They are regarded as pests even though so cute. A bogan is generally an uneducated person---load, uncouth and badly dressed. Driving age 16 to 18 depending on the state. These cars are expensive but as always you do get what you pay for. Last but not least Welcome ---hope you stay awhile !

Ali

no - and we don't keep them as pets either
a bogan is like a country person - i don't really know, its just a popular word

the driving age is 17
