Ditto Lady Rebecca...I can't believe this news. I mean this is Steve Irwin, our Croc Hunter. This doesn't feel real does it. How my heart goes out to Terri, Bindi and Bob. He was a true animal lover and conservationist, who was so committed to educating people. Oh so sad. I have a very sad feeling in the pit of my stomach. A very sad loss to conservation. May he indeed rest in peace.

Yes Lady Rebecca I am finding this hard to come to terms with. We all thought Steve was invincible and he really did make the world a better place.
This news saddens me terribly, I am just glad he died doing what he loved however feel enormous sorrow for Terri and the kids. Not only do they have to deal with his death but they will have to do it publicly.
Steve was a passionate conservationist, buying huge tracts of land over the world so animals could have a natural environment to live in. He left a lasting legacy.
Australia has lost a legend, sad, sad day.

Yeah. That kinda sucked that he died. I liked to watch his show on tv. I guess the only good thing is that he died doing something he loved. Not only that, but he did a lot for endangered species of the world.
RIP Steve.

THE Crocodile Man, Steve Irwin, is dead.

He was killed in a freak accident in Cairns, police sources said.

It is understood he was killed by a sting-ray barb that went through his chest.

He was swimming off the Low Isles at Port Douglas filming an underwater documentary and that's when it occured.

Ambulance officers confirmed they attended a reef fatality this morning at Batt Reef off Port Douglas.

It is understood Mr Irwin was killed around midday, Eastern Australian time.

It is understood he was killed instantly.

A source said Mr Irwin was already dead when his body was brought onto the Isle.

A source said Mr Irwin's body was being airlifted to Cairns Hospital in North Queensland for formal identification.

More soon

Ferlyn from Singapore.

I still can't believe he is not here anymore.
i didnt believe it first when i saw my friends nickname on MSN Messenger.. but after i checked... i cried for half an hour.
Steve Irwin*respect* has been my conservation idol ever since Crocodile Hunter. Risking his live in the name for conservation. I've always dream to be like him one day, to be a naturalist and a spokesperson for conservation. Also, i've always admired the unconditional love and support from his Family especially Terri. Mr.Irwin will always be a legend in our memories. His work and call for conservation will live on with us.

i just spoke to my friend in Australia
I also planned to go Australia zoo this december to meet him in person. i even plan to continuously go there for a few days just in case i do not meet him in the first.
now, it seems like a dream... i can only see his memorial now...

I think this has brought a very important message across the world.
We should do our part for conservtion.
Mr.Irwin has given his all, though he was brought down by a very unfortunate accident. I believe his legend will live on.

May your soul rest in peace.
In Loving memory of Steve Irwin, world renown Crocodile Hunter and Legend

RE:Confused-You are ignorant. A man is dead and all you can do is put him down. Didn't your mother teach you any manners at all? Don't speak ill of the dead. Have you ever heard of respect? You, of course, are entitled to your own opinion, but the rest of us here might not want to hear it. We are mourning.

RIP Steve Irwin, you were the Michael Jackson of the animal world. I mean no malace but you took the animal world to it's limits of acceptance. No doubt you were attempting to ride the back of this stingray .............totally in contempt of the animal and it's environment ....... for the sake of a few dollars more. I feel so sorry for you and your family but I must say if this is the result of misadventure I thank the lord your child was not swimming with you. You were a great example of Aussie okkarism, something the rest of world is totally unaware of ...... sadly.

I believe that is a rumor. I havent heard a thing about Steve passing.

It is hard-breaking that his very young children have lost their dad. However, this man did very little for conservation - instead he turned animals which should be free in the wild into zoo animals (no conservation in that); he agitated animals in the wild and him being killed by a stingray is absolutely the best revenge for the animal kingdom. The irony is exquisite that one of the most docile animals on earth would kill him with a ray to the heart - makes one wonder whether he had not started agitating the stingray as he has done to millions of other reptiles and animals. He acted in a very irresponsible manner in his shows - agitating animals openly to get a reaction from them, dangling his one-month old child near crocodiles with no warning that this is extremely dangerous behavior on anyone's part, etc.

It is sad that he died, I feel immensely sorry for his children and his wife. And yes he was an Aussie icon, but he was not a conservationist. May his soul rest in peace. And may his family find solace in the fact that they spent so much quality time together and that he died doing what he enjoyed most.
