Recommended stops on the Great Ocean Road?

Hi

Myself and four friends are hoping to rent a car in March from Melbourne and spend 4 days driving on the Great Ocean road.

Can anyone recomend attractions we should make sure to include on our itinerary or good hostels/restaurants we should check out?

spend a day at Cape Nelson- take the boat up the Glenelg River to the caves. Fascinating day trip up a major river that most people do not even know exists. Beautiful limestone cliffs, bird life, and bush. The cave is brilliant, too.

Loch Ard Gorge

12 Apostles.

Cape Otway Lighthouse

As I recall there is not a lot of accommodation right on the road.

Here the site for the road as a whole -

As Above and
Sky walk ( up in the trees just beyond Apolo Bay)
there are plenty of places to stay down around the area in B & B's Camping Grounds and Pubs.
Then there is port Campbell and all the way down to Warnambool

I second those, also check out Torquay, Bells Beach - one of the worlds best surf beaches. Also a couple of my fave stops on the way to check out is Point Addis and Point Roadknight. Have a great trip!

ANA
Stop at:
The Naranja Aboriginal Centre
Bells Beach, Famous surf beach often usedin films,
Kennett River at the cafe to see the koalas in the wild
Maitland Rainforest
Lorne
Apollo Bay to do the tree top walk
Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard and London Bridge
Warnambool
If going onto Adelaide
Mount Gambier to see the Blue Lagaoon
There is also a pink Salt Lake but not sure where
Hahndorf as you just get into Adelaide is a quaint German town
Warnambool
Port Fairy
Have a lovely time
There are many information centres along the way who can help you with accommodation and brochures etc

Lorne. I love that little town with its street cafes and lovely beach. There is one point that if you are there at dusk you will see Penguins waddling up the beach. but you would need to make enquiries to where that is. I just stumbled across it by sheer luck.

Cant' remember the name of the town, but after you pass the the 12 apostles, it's the biggest town where they have the popular show about the shipwreck. You should get there around 8-9 pm. if you travel from Melbourne and leave around 9-10 in the morning. There are quite a few hotels there, including the big chain hotels.
