Roughly how much spending money should I take on a holiday to Australia?

I will be there for three weeks and all hotels pre paid, so looking at meals, and general spending.

It depends on what you want to do. I was there for 3 weeks last year, brought $2000. I hired a car for a week, that was $500 including pertrol and the extra they charged me for excess mileage.

Meals out weren't specially dear, but if you are tempted by their lovely opals, you could find the dollars flying away quickly.

If you aren't hiring a car, long-distance trains and internal flights are expensive. Local buses are great value - much less than at home. And in central Perth and Fremantle, they have a free bus system, the CAT (I think that is Central Area Transport or something similar) - keeps going all day in a loop, hop on and hop off, next bus in about 12 minutes. It's a great system - people don't need to bring in their cars, so the central areas are good for pedestrians.

You'll have a great time. Coming home, I felt 3 weeks was much too short. You will too. Enjoy!!

for food maybe $100 daily if you eat out at restaurants (its an oversight just in case)

We took 3000 pounds for a family of 4 which had most excursions and all hotels pre-booked. We cam back with almost a 1000 too.
If it is just for yourself then I would take about 1500 pounds if you can.

peter p
it's about two dollars to the pound so enjoy.

$400 per week so $1200 should be ok. Make it $1500 just in case of emergencies.
