I think its due to the more layed back lifestyle.
We have beaches to relax on the weekends, big shopping malls which tend to be open and spacious. There is always things to do in the cities. There are generally heaps of parks and walking, cycling and running tracks around the cities.
And the people out further tend to be very nice people becuase they are out there doing something they love. I have never met a farmer who doesnt love what they do.
There is a lot of people here who are not nice....there are quite a few very bad people.
But for the majority of Australians, thankyou for your complement and I think its due to the more layed back lifestyle. Work hard during the week and then relax at the mall or the beach on the weekend. |

Thanks for the compliment.
Most of us treat others the same way as we are treated, so you must be an ok sort of person yourself.
Have a very Merry Christmas. |

Who wouldn't be happy living in Australia! I am obviously VERY biased, but it is a great place to live.
I have heard this before from people I know who have moved here from other countries. They are amazed when total strangers in shops start talking to them. And shop assistants (although not all) are usually happy and cheery. Life is good here. |

I couldn't agree with you more. What a shame we have to come home to the UK. I would do anything to stay here forever and God am I going to cry when my 2 years is up!! I pray every day I wont have to come back to London.
The first thing whch amazed me was being offered a lift - It took me a while to agree until I was told its normal - If someone did it at home I would run or call the police.
:''( I don't want to come home - this is my home and I always knew I'd love it here! |

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that we are a new country & don't have the baggage that older countries have.
Being a nation of migrants all of us at one stage or another had to leave all that behind & learn to get along in order to build lives here for ourselves. |

It's because of the sunny weather they've got down there. I've noticed that people who come from countries with proper sunny months are more friendly and cheerful in general :)
PS. I might be biased. I'm originally from SE Asia, living in England, have been to Oz several times and always had a fab time there! |

Aussie can normally tell that people are not from Australia without even talking to you and we just want you to feel like you don't belong....We love every1 lol...It's just the way we are..
Aust has a low population desity so when you go shopping and that its allmost certain u'll run into some1 you know and just talk... even to ppl u only reconise their face and have no idea what their name is.. |

We live in a beautiful place and it's very multicultural.
Of course, you do come along an Aussie idiot every now and then,
but Australia is fall of people from everywhere, we're not overpopulated, beautiful weather most of the time, and great places. |

It's just the way we are. We don't go around looking for things to complain about and reasons to be unhappy: instead, we like to feel good about ourselves and the people around us and there's no better way than to smile and get a smile in return.
Thanks, and welcome. |

Pleased that you've had good experiences here.
Not so for many tourists, who complain about rudeness from shop/cafe staff, particularly in tourist-dependent areas such as Cairns, Gold Coast, Pt Douglas etc.
Some shopkeepers think that they can be offhand with tourists because they won't see them again tomorrow.
Also, many of the staff in these areas are working backpackers some of whom don't give much of a stuff about service. |
