There may be some small towns that skew one way or another but overall it is pretty balanced. Australia is beautiful, have a great visit! |

I'm aussie - there isn't 7 men for each woman in Australia generally speaking. However in some places that have resources (mining etc) booms such as Western Australia (capital city Perth) there are more men around |

I don't believe it...I'd be asking where your cousin got their info. |

I live in Mt. Isa and the ratio here is 6 men to each woman. There have been a number of news stories advertising this fact recently. So if you are looking for a hard working bloke with plenty of cash, come and have a look. |

I'm from Australia and I thought it was actually the other way around - a whole lot of girls and not enough guys. So I'd check your facts :) |

Your Aussie cousins are so keen for you to visit that they are raving - we call it 'bullshitting' in Ozzie-speak. Some areas have higher density (population) of men - other just have higher density (more dense men, i.e. 'thick heads'). ... but it's a great place and you'll love it - so move your Yankee tail and get out here - suggest for a visit rather than relocate at first.

They're pulling your leg about Australia in general, but it's true that in some of the outback mining towns there aren't nearly enough women for the number of men working there. In the cities if anything, it's the other way around when you remove all of the gay guys from the gender equation, but there are still plenty of straight men around who I'm sure would love to show an American girl a good time - most of them will love your accent.
Your cousins obviously really want you to visit and are telling you whatever they think will get you on the plane. Come visit them; you'll love it here. |

It was true about 200 years ago, your cousin is either way behind the times or probably will tell you anything to get you here. |

WRONG there are more women than men
unless your cousin is living out the bank of whoop whoop |

it depends on where your cousin is living, i watched a program on tv about some small cities where there are very few single women, and the men where complaining that whenever u go to a pub all u see are couples or women who r already married or have a boyfriend, and there actually there were 7 men for a women! in bigger cities its differant, so dont get ur hopes high travelling to sydney and melbourne!!! |

No, that's not true. Maybe way up North in some of the mining communities it may be like that, but even then, most of those men have wives back in the city and they fly in and fly out and pretend to be single whilst up North. In Sydney, it is more likely to be the other way around. |

Yes, in Mt. Isa it is true. I am in Australia now and I saw it on Australian 60 minutes a couple of weeks ago. The mayor was interviewed. But in general no, the population is pretty evenly split by gender. |

Recent stats up here in Cairns (Tropical North Queensland) reveal that the ratio is 50 women to 1 bloke in the 23 to 49 age group (see link below).
Theory is that all the blokes have gone off to work in the western mines or northern fishing/prawning industry for the big bucks.
