Should I visit Perth?

I am American and have never been to Australia and know I would love to visit Melbourne/Sydney, but Perth looks quite beautiful also (reminds me of my hometown of San Diego, California). Are there tours that incorporate all three cities? I know Perth is 1700 miles away from Melbourne, but this would be a once-in-a-lifetime trip so would want to truly see Australia.

Perth is beautiful with gorgeous beaches. You can take day trips to see the Pinnacles Desert or Wave Rock or Margaret River. My English cousin recently traveled around WA and they loved it. The East Coast is nice too but it is much more heavily populated.
I noticed some Queenslanders knocking WA which they usually do but in fact Brisbane is often called Brisvegas and the Gold Coast is so tacky you would hate it. If you want real Australia, real natural beauty and not badly done tourist spots then do WA and take some trips from Perth too.
You could go to Sydney>Melbourne>Perth>Broome (for the most magical outback experience of your life between April and November)>Sydney>USA.

Hi. I'm an American, a native of San Diego, and I currently live in Perth. Come for a visit! I'm sure you'll love it. The Aussies who've written about the area have good recommendations. You'll find plenty to do. And "Wait Awhile" (Western Australia) should sound very appealing to someone from crazy SoCal.

Cheers.

If you want to see Perth, then do it. Yes, it is a long way away from the Eastern states, but if you do not go then you will spend all your time wondering...what if?

But Why??

Perth is beautiful, one of the nicest cities in the world. You will love it.

Billybean
Why limit yourself to cities.
You have mentioned "Melbourne/Sydney" and "Perth", but there is so much more to Australia, and WA in particular. Why look at a building when its going to be the same as any other building in any other city in any other part of the world.
If this is to be a "once in a lifetime trip" then broaden your horizons man. Go to Ayers Rock (Uluru), have a day in The Alice, swim the Great Barrier Reef, stay at an outback station, drive across the Nullabor, walk the Bibbulmun Track, go to Kakadu, swim in the NT etc etc etc.

There is a lot to see and do in Perth and Fremantle, but they are the big urban centres of Western Australia. There are some magnificent places to visit throughout the state. Head to the North West, such as the Pilbara and the Kimberley regions, particularly places like Exmouth to see the whalesharks and other natural wonders (Bundegi Beach is paradise). Head out to visit Karijini National Park to see the beautiful gorges that contain some pretty amazing waterholes and wildlife. Head to the beautiful SouthWest for great food and wine and the last of our WA forests. There's the excellent surfing down there if thats your thing.

I'm from Fremantle and recently got back from a 3 month road trip up North. It was fantastic, I'm heading back up there for work soon so it does get under your skin. Perth probably has one of the largest ex-pat American populations in Australia if thats anything to go by. Similar climate to US cities like San Diego, but still laid back and reasonably easy going people.

Western Australia is a huge state with diverse people and environments, and just like the large ex-pat population, when you vist you will fall in love and might not want to leave.

Mate, in all honesty, Perth is a nice but there is not much to see there for tourists.
Most tourists visit Kings Park lookout and maybe Rottnest Island, that's about all there is.
If you go to Perth, you only need a couple of days there.
You would be better off doing Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and maybe a stop off on the Gold Coast.
Brisbane is much nicer than Perth.

hi i live in qld on the gold coast just south of beautiful brisbane and have been a truck driver doing long distance in the past i can tell you now that perth is in western australia W.A.

anyway i live in queensland let just say that if you want the time of your life you need to see the northern territory uluru, kings canyon, mataranka springs, kakadu then there is queensland has all the outback has to offer in far north qld and nth wst queensland tropical rainforests start on the gold coast in southern qld there is so much to see and do here you could hire a house boat on the gold coast waterways and go for 6 months and still not see it all deep sea fishing charters big game fishing
the australia zoo now its bindi irwins park it was steve irwins park til he was unfortunately taken from us (rip)
one of the great natural wonders of the world
THE GREAT BARRIER REEF just too much to mention here in the short time i spend on here

of course there are tours to fit your itinerary
you could fly
sydney>melbourne>perth>darwin>alice springs>brisbane
then back to the USA
have you checked with your travel agent? you won't find a tour on the web i don't think - you have to find a private operator.
enjoy your stay in oz

If you are going to Sydney and Melbourne, you will realize that it is a waste of time to go to Perth. Travel to Perth is like traveling to Australia from another country, time-wise. And there isn't much to see.
