Should all people who are caught speeding get their car crushed without a second chance? |
It really annoys me every time I hear about people speeding and getting others killed. I believe the laws are not strict enough.
There is no such thing as "speeding accidentally". They just do it for the pleasure of driving fast. I seriously believe there should be NO second chance for such offenses and their cars should be crushed immediately while they watch. If they have done it once, they will do it again.
What do you reckon? I've seen too much of this nonsense |

It depends on the scenario. Lets say an Habitual driving offender who consistantly speeds and drives dangerously, should that person be considered for car crushing?. Now, lets say that a man driving his wife to hospital after being bitten by a brown snake/funnelweb spider, or about to give birth is speeding, Should his car be crushed?. Now both scenarios will most probably involve excessive speed. Regardless of the situation they are both committing an offence, A speeding camera cannot differentiate between the two scenarios, only the discretion of a Police officer can. There needs to be a clear cut approach to it. I have attended many horrific car crashes, given CPR to deceased drivers, all of these incidents I attended have slowed me down significantly. Now would the approach of showing these people first hand, showing them pictures, making them sit in emergency wards, watching parents bury their kids, slow them down? Or will the bleeding hearts once again say that it is too traumatic for them. Is the trauma of people smashed to pieces in vehicles (People actually do fall apart in crashes)and the destruction of families less than some fool who drives like an idiot? People have to realise that when you kill someone and it is your fault, you have a very very good chance at being thrown in Gaol. And guess what happens to good looking 18 year olds in Gaol, let just say they cannot sit down properly for a very long time. |

A bit extreme mate. hoon driving maybe, but not regular old 10km over the limit speeding.
I think car crushing is only meaningful when it belongs to a hoon driver who has spent time and money on it. Some people drive beautiful cars and then have a bomb to thrash on the weekend.
But I thinnk driving recklessly or driving in excessive speed (eg doing 110 in 60 zone... does happen) etc should have much more severe consquences.
I also disagree with people who kill others thru bad driving practices, are charged with the crime and then can drive again (maximum 10 years license suspension). That is rubbish!! sometimes of legal system is forked. |

hey, normally i'd agree, but there are such things as speed traps, where people really ARE accidentally speeding (say, the sign changes and they don't have a chance to slow). but, hell, i have friends who do it for the hell of it and sometimes i wish there'd be a way for them to learn not to |

I'd agree with for people travelling at excessive speed.
If I get caught travelling at 85kph in an 80 zone, I don't think my car should be crushed. Not the first time anyway. |

I think if they are way ove the speed limit yes I definately do agree. But no I don't think all cars should be crushed. I think that you can accidently speed .. those that are over the limit by less then 10kms or so. Because there have been times that i, myself have looked at my speedo to realise that I was over the speed limit... normally by a couple of kms not much. But anything that is more than 50 kms yes agree that the punishments should be more severe and anything greater than 70kms then yes cars shoul be crushed and no second chances. But i also think that people should only be given 2 chances if they speed the second time then their license should be gone and car crushed. |

P platers with hotted up cars who drive around thinking they are invincible and constantly speeding should have their cars crushed. They are idiots who don't deserve the privilege of a licence or a car. Get them off the road before they kill someone. |

I think crushing cars for any speeding offence is a bit extreme. It IS possible to speed accidentally by a few kph and when you're driving by yourself, you find that's the case. I know it shouldn't happen, and you wouldn't find a driver more against breaking the law than me, but I still find myself a few k over from time to time in hilly and very long, straight areas.
I do think though that consideration should be given to confiscation of cars when the offence is drink driving over .08; driving while suspended; speeding more than 25 kph over; drag racing and a few other offences. Depending on the severity of the offence, cars could be held (at the owner's expense) for varying periods and for really bad, or repeat offences, it should be permanent. |

Most people speed, especially on freeways. Speeding of 5 maybe 10km an hour by EXPERIENCED drivers on safe roads, such as freeways is not so bad.
You need to draw a line, perhaps 30kms + your car should be impounded and 45+ sold at auction not crushed, why waste a good car.
But at the same time 30kms in a 60 zone is a lot worse then 30km in a 100 zone.. It's too hard to police. They should use percentages not km ranges. say 20% and less is the regular fine and points, and up it from there.
Someone mentioned the suspension period. If you speed and kill someone (normally aimed at teens) your licence should be removed for good and never be permitted to drive again. This 2 years suspension bs is garbage. |

i absolutely DO NOT think people who speed should have they're cars crushed. people who drive below the speed limit should though |

whatever bud, are you joking or what ? maybe we should just hang anyone who speeds, you are probably one of the morons doing 10 kms under the speed limit because you think its safer, unaware its just as bad and causes accidents also.
get a life............or a job with TAC. |
