Should i move from Ireland to New Zealand ???

I am a fellow Irish traveller who first moved to Australia in the late sixties. After some years here I returned to Ireland. However on return I could not settle and I became completely disillusioned with all thing Irish and I pined for Australia. I resolved to return to Australia as soon as I could.

Due to my particular set of circumstances I was unable to return to Australia until 1982. I have never regretted returning as I love this country dearly

In no way do I wish to denigrate Ireland as it is the country which I grew up and my extended family are still there but I love Australia more and I consider myself to be a proud Irish/Australia but I know I will never return to Ireland.

I also had a good job when I left Ireland and I owned a house pretty close to the centre of Dublin. I also had a family so I made a big sacrifice when I returned to Australia. I virtually had to start all over again, build a career and buy a house which at that time (due to less them now generous exchange rates) were much more expensive then Irish houses.

I think you are right to travel to NZ (as it is a wonderful place) however why not spend sometime in Australia whilst you are in the neighbourhood.

If you do not at least give your dream a try you will regret it just as much as I would have if I had stayed in Ireland.

Ireland is indeed a very good country to come from.

mate i live in new zealand cant wait to get out . new zealand going backwards really fast. taxes to high government out of control australia would be a better place to live thats where im taking my family too

tasmania is the cheapest but it is very very laid back but it is realy beatiful down there

Go for it, on these conditions: you are a hard worker, you know where you want to live exactly, you have a few bob to carry you over the initial set-up. Excellent idea.

NZ is a depressing place if you're not on holidays. The people are very small-town minded and they blow really small issues into major affairs. I couldn't live there (I live in Melbourne).

If you go there and do the same work then you could well be STILL working in a factory, albeit in one on the other side of the world. After work you'll still be paying off a house in a crappy town.

Don't be too impressed with NZ based on a 3-month holiday....it's a different story if you have to live there.

Personally I'd advise you to come to australia where you can have more choices, a bigger country, bigger population etc. If you really want to meet New Zealanders then we've got heaps of those here too.

Think about getting a 1-year working visa and come over here. Don't leave it too late though, you're getting to the upper age limits.

Hi, im 26 a kiwi and living in Dublin at the moment, I wouldnt move new zealand for the money cos the dollar is crap, compared to the euro or pound, however NZ is great, there are some similarities between Ireland and NZ and some differences

why would you be crazy to think about moving, Ive got a new apprecation for my homeland after travelling abit and realise it really is one of the most scenic places in the world, and theres good craic to be had there (well some places).

Have you used your working holiday visa? Go for a year, travel broadens the mind, you'll never know if you dont go!

Definitely. If you're anything like me, you get bored of a place in 5 years or less. Go for it! It doesn't have to be forever.

I've lived in a few places in the states, Europe, and Africa. I'm keen to try the Caribbean and the South Pacific next - on no particular order.

New Zealand is really nice, but Australia is your best choice. The country is so diverse from rain forests to deserts. Maybe try and cram a visit to both countries.

Yes! I lived in NZ until 1 year ago, but moved back to UK to be closer to family. I'm totally homesick for it, the lifestyle there is so amazing. I could surf one afternoon and ski the next, and kiwis just have the right attitude to work - work to live, not live to work. I'd be back in a flash if it wasn't for family - it is a long way, that's the only problem. Mortgages are pricy too, in comparison with the average wage over there - you'd be wise to check out things like that first. Good luck!
