Although Sydney is the largest city in Australia, it is certainly not the capital. It is a very nice place for sightseeing, as it boasts such landmarks as the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbor Bridge. It has a population of 4.12 million, compared to the next largest city in Australia, Melbourne, with a population of 3.74 million.

I hope this information is helpful.

Canberra is the capital of Australia Sydney just like to think they are.

Check your atlas again there Magellan... Canberra is the capital of Australia.

Canberra is the capital city- the population of Sydney is just over 4 million, so it's our busiest city!

No, Sydney is not the Capital of Australia, Canberra is.
Yes, Sydney is a busy city.

But Why??

Due to exposure in various movies and TV, most people think Sydney is the capital of Australia. A little town in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory) west of Sydney called Canberra is the Capital of Australia. It would not be known that well overseas. Lots of people here call it cantberra as most of our pollies live there....and make up funny rules.

sydney is the capital of New South Wales not Australia

Sydney is not what I would describe as crowded or busy and if you are from Europe, Asia or America I'm sure you would think its a quiet City - as is most of Australia, compared to the rest of the World. Its more multi cultural than our capital City Canberra - which is a very quiet uneventful place!

Hello,

I'm sorry to say but Canberra is the Nations Capital of Australia not Sydney!! (thank goodness).

Sydney is the largest state capital city in Australia which is located in New South Wales and the next largest capital city is Melbourne in Victoria then Brisbane in Queensland is the third largest.

Here in Canberra we are small capital city but we have a lot to offer in reqards to tourism, events, festivals, attractions and National attractions which can only be found here in Canberra and lots of other things as well.

The population of Canberra is around 320,000 but we are a great city and friendly people and it's easy to get around and find places and doesn't take long to get to places.

If your interested in finding more about Canberra, our Nations Capital please visit either of the following websites.

Australian Capital Tourism:
http://www.visitcanberra.com.au

Nations Capital:
http://www.nationalcapital.gov.au

Live in Canberra:
http://www.liveincanberra.com.au

I'm a local here in Canberra and I strongly support tourism here and I'm always promoting Canberra, our Nations Capital of Australia as a tourist destination to anyone who I meet and when I'm on holidays as well.

I hope this answers your question. If you have any other questions about Canberra please feel free to contact me anytime.

Thank you

From Clint

Sydney is not the capital.
But yes, it is a really busy city.
It is also a very beautiful city - so please, please, please, don't come. You sound revolting.

Sydney should be the capitol of australia, as Canberra is a boring place and either very hot, or very cold. Its not on the coast and it has a big lake. Canberra is so boring i would not mind if i never went there again. It has nothing on Sydney, except a bunch of wanker politicians who think they are important, heaps of porn and heaps of fireworks (and that lake Burley Griffen or whatever its called).

Sydney is busy and vibrant and often fun, canberra is dull and pathetic and a waste of time to visit.

Get your facts right first mate. Sydney is not the capital of Australia, Canberra is. Even though I do like Canberra (and yes it is worth a ---short--- visit) Sydney is definitely the greatest place to be in Australia. Loads to see during the day and do during the night. It's quite busy and reminds me a lot of a busy american city at times. Well worth a visit.

As many have said, Sydney is not the capital of Australia. I've never been to Sydney but it is Australia's largest city, so I'd say that yes it most likely is a busy place.

sunmoonearthhome
No, its really small.
