Single Mum of pre-schooler doesn't know whether to leave great job in Sydney for great job on Sunshine Coast? |
I have a good set of friends in Sydney, but all family overseas. I know a few people in Brisbane, none on the Sunshine Coast. Lifestyle appeals though, as does making the move before my 4 year old starts school, and the fact that I could afford to buy a house! |

I don't know the Sunshine Coast but I live a little further south, on the mid-north NSW coast, and the people are definitely far nicer up here than in the city. The environment is far better too - uncrowded beaches, accessible countryside, clean air etc. The schools are also far nicer than those in Sydney. And as you say, property is far more affordable. I would make that move and make it soon! |

i would definitly move out of sydney to bring up my child. and you have things like affordable living and a geat job up here. i would think the desion was already made. and freinds, well with your child going into school soon theres all the new mums you can meet and people through work just to start with. i wouldnt worry and just make the big move as living up here on the sunshine coast (where i am) is way better than dingy sydney city. but thats just me a i couldnt imagine living away from the beach and could never live in the hectic environment on sydney. |

Sounds to me like you have almost made up your mind to leave Sydney. I wouldn't blame you, the lifestyle in the country is definitely better. Owning your own home is sooooo much better than living in someone else's and paying their mortgage as well! |

Go for it! I lived there for a couple of years and loved it. I now live on the Gold Coast because of my husbands job. It is a wonderful place to raise kids. With loads of things to do for little ones. It is only 2 hours drive to Brisbane so it will be easy to visit friends there and for them to come up and visit and what a wonderful place to entertain overseas family and friends. We had lots of visitors when we lived there. The people there are very friendly and of course the lifestyle is great, beautiful beaches, rivers, mountains and fresh air. I grew up in Sydney and moved up here when I was in my 30s. I wouldn't move back for anything. If you can buy a house then what's stopping you. You will easily make friends through your little one. |

Do a list of the pros and cons to staying in Sydney and moving to Sunshine Coast. Research the Sunshine Coast to find out more info that way if you do decide to move you will know where things are ahead of time. Keep in mind that if you move to a place where u don't know anyone it can be a bit scary. You have the hardest part of moving covered (a job). If it is more money or a better location, school, things like that then I would say yes. Friends could always come visit. If you like your current location and everything stay. |

I live in Brisbane and I visit the sunshine coast often. The sunshine coast is laid back and it would be a great place to bring up a child. I cant imagine you having trouble making new friends there it is such an easy going place. I have also been to Sydney a few times and that place is a real rat race compared to the sunny coast but it is a city that has plenty to offer regarding employment. Good luck with your decision. |

The Sunshine Coast is a fantastic place to live. The climate is genuinely great all year 'round - I live in Brisbane and can vouch for that. Housing will be cheaper and better (for the money) than in Sydney and if the SC job is a great one, you can only gain.
One thing you should keep in mind though - you'll need a bigger house than in Sydney. Once you live on the SC, your friends will all want to come and stay with you and you'll need room for them LOL.
You'll love the lifestyle and won't have the slightest trouble making new friends - Go for it! |

Good friends are hard to find and as a single parent they are your life line. I love the Sunshine Coast, to me its heaven on earth with a terrific lifestyle but home ownership is not the most important thing. If your the sort of person who makes friends easily take a chance if not stay put in Sydney and see if you can come up a 4 week holiday and see how things go. Having said all that if you come up and it doesn't work out you will have your friends waiting in Sydney for you. |
