I don't live there but Port Adelaide has a fairly bad name.

And I've seen their football supporters!!!!

Well I have to agree with Mummy's answer, First of all if ur studying at Flinders somewhere close would be nice, FlagstaffHill, Marion, Brighton, Somerton Park are all good suburbs, now the other person was right, Adelaide is nothing compared to cities like Sydney or Melbourne when it comes to violence, look at all the racial riots there last year, Melbourne and Sydney have some of the worst, most dangerous suburbs in Australia, Adelaide is tame compared to them, go check out Paramatta, Footscray, Frankston, I could go on and on, Adelaide has a few rough, poorer class suburbs but I would not be afraid of walking through any of them, its frightening just getting on a train in Sydney. All states have had a gruesome murder and yes so has Adelaide, but compared to Sydney and Melbourne Adelaide is tame, yes its quieter and probably a bit boring compared to the other two cities but lets not forget Sydney and melbourne has 4 times as many people so one would expect that. The Uni's and Hospitals here in Adelaide are rated amongst the best in the world, so suburbs to avoid is really a hard question because they aren;t that bad, I suppose Morphetvale and Hackam West would be the worse ones down south, but then only at night would some problems exist and up North its probably Smithfield and the Elizabeth suburbs, but even they are fairly tame now. I have lived here all my life, I grew up in Virginia on a farm and went to Salisbury schools and went out to all those areas and never once had a problem. I wouldnt believe all ya here because in my view violence wise Adelaide is nothing but tame. Good luck with ur studies and enjoy the beautiful beaches down there, if you ever get the chance go for a drive south to Port Elliot for the day you will love it, its beautiful. Cheers Ps, All those suburbs Shelty wrote about are South not North, and if you want to see crims, drugs, scum etc as he put it live in Sydney or Melbourne thats the capital of crims,,some people just have no idea, that guys an idiot. Have a great day..

you probaly won;t be going anywhere near north, avoid davoren park, elizabeth north west south and all adjoining arenas like a plague...

as for the south, christies beach, and adjoining areas alike.

omg i cant beleive people think such things about Adelaide, i've lived here all my life and not come across much crime at all. We're not that bad really, yes there are some pretty bad suburbs but you get that in every state and every country. Its just sad that the bad things get put out there and not the good.

akio nakajima
obviously there are some jealous melbournians on here...at least Adelaide air is breathable... stop being so un-Australian

Hi I agree with Mummy and yahwhoo. Adelaide is a wonderful city and I also have lived here all my life. Just one thing that people have been saying though. Morphett Vale, and any other suburb down south is great. I have lived in Reynella all my life. I have walked down Main South Rd Morphett Vale at 3am in the morning on my own, I even sit in my car late at night in Christies Beach and I feel safe. I haven't had any trouble living around here.
As far as Lou, thom jo d, Shelty and Kayla ,or anyone else that puts down Adelaide I say this to you. Get a life. We may not have as many nightclubs or as many people that live in our state and I hear you say oh the crime is terrible over there. Let me remind you that South Australia was the only state that was not settled by convicts. Our State was settled by free settlers. And we are proud of who were are. I have lived in Melbourne and you can keep it. I'm proud to be from Adelaide and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else in this beautiful Country of ours.
Now to your question, Your are studing at Flinders so I suggest that some where down south would be the best bet. Happy Valley, Aberfoyle Park, Reynella, Morphett Vale, Blackwood these are close and handy for you to get to the Uni.
Good luck with your study and god bless

Shelty K
Well nothing North of the City for sure.

Definitely not Morphetvale or Christies Beach ( Drugs, single parents, hoodlums, crims)

You would be better off in Seaview Downs Brighton, Seacliffe, Merino, Hove, Glenelg, Black Forrest, Blackwood, Morphetville
All close to the UNI
