We stayed in the Shangri La hotel in Sydney and it was absolutely fantastic, you are right over the Opera house, its worth every single penny.

There are many Hotels to stay in Sydney but not many overlook the Opera House. I would suggest you stay at Darling Harbour which is just around the corner. The views are excellent and there are many Boutique Hotels in that area.Access in Sydney is easy you can travel by monorail,Underground railway which circles the city and will take you to various points of interest. The Rocks area swings at night and also during the day.You can catch either Ferries or Hydrofoils from Circular Quay(right at the Opera House) to visit Manly or Taronga Zoo or whatever takes your fancy. Try to come in our Summer,Spring / September to February to take advantage of our beautiful weather . Have a great holiday.

Yeh the shangri-la is a good spot park hyatt as well

Try looking at the small hotels in the rocks. They are cheap and have great views of the opera house.

to get a good idea of places have a look at wotif.com.au

You could stay at "the toaster" - which is a huge apartment block and hotel about 200 metres from the Opera house... it's at Circular Quay

Or look at Rassison on Hunter St / Colins st

Come in Nov - Mar... good summer time then, plus lots of fun festivals are on too.
