You mentioned Australia Zoo, I am off there this coming weekend and just wanted to point out that it is one hour's drive north of Brisbane, at Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast. (I can't wait, it is supposed to be fantastic!) They do coach pick-ups from central Brisbane, although it is expensive and the coach returns quite early. Of course if you hire a car it won't be a problem.

Ten days is just about okay for a trip - you may be jetlagged coming in this direction but you should be fine going back. That's how it usually works.

Weather in Queensland should be great in April. With Sydney, you never know but it might be getting cool by that stage. (Ignore the first answerer - they know nothing about Sydney!) Just make sure to bring long-sleeved sweaters or a light jacket, and long pants like jeans.

If you have children, then I would definately recommend Brisbane ... On the Gold coast They have Wet N' Wild, Dreamworld, Movieworld and Sea world and Brisbane has Australia zoo...they should also have a little warmer weather around April (however, in the past, there have also been some severe storms up towards North Queensland around that time, and you may still feel it at Brisbane if that should happen again.)

If you are a couple, Sydney is great. There are great places to visit, excellent places to eat around the harbour, great scenery toward the coast lines and some fairly good night life in the harbour and surrounding districts.
I'm not too sure on what Brisbane/Gold coast has to offer, but I'm sure there is a lot there too... Go to www.citysearch.com.au - you can choose a city, and you can view restaurants, entertainment, what's on, etc.

In April in Sydney, we are in our 2nd month of Autumn and the weather is generally cool. Unfortunately, the weather has been so unpredictable lately, that our summers are a mix-up of storms and heat waves... and the other seasons appear the same. (It's summer, yesterday was about 38 degrees celcius and today is about 22 degrees)

It shouldn't get too cold in April though.

By April it will be Autumn, so it won't be extremely hot, you may get rainy or windy days but I think the Australian heat is over done by other people, such as tourists or people who haven't been here but ASSUME it's unbearable. The absolute heat is in central Australia (Alice Springs) all our other capital cities are located on the shore, so it's not so bad.

You should come for 10 days. If you don't like it you can go back and like you said, this is a taster so if you really love it you could come back in November when it's really nice.

Anyway - you'll love Australia - especially Sydney with the Harbour and everything, trust me you'll want to come back :)

australians (well most i know) love people from the uk =D around easter it is not too hot not to cold about 25 degrees on average usually (maybe like your summer but a little cooler) there is alot to see and do here if you can fit it in in 10 days =O im from sydney and we have ALOT!! toronga zoo, aquarium+reptile park, lunar park, awsome beaches, bridge walk(habour bridge) museum of fire, national martime museum, quarentine station, opera house, center point tower awsome clubs and resturants plus lots more plus festivals and stuff that are on quite frequently. there are a few arseholes here and there depending on the area but you get that in every country

Not at all! Spur of the moment trips are the BEST! Do it, you'll love it - even better if you have friends here already.
