Sydney has a temperate climate with few extremes in the weather patterns. It never snows. Summers can be very humid and wet. Note that Sydney is in the southern hemisphere and the seasons are reversed to those in Europe the USA, and most of Asia. Sydney is a comfortable place to visit no matter when you come. During the summer months from December through to February, outdoor activities are popular, as scores of students head off to the beach for school holidays (December to January).
In quality of life studies, Australia's large cities rate very favourably compared with cities elsewhere. As you might expect, Sydney rates very well too but its overall score is lower than it might be because crime rates are similar to London's and New York's. Fortunately, not all areas in Sydney have high crime and there are plenty of areas with low crime rates. |

I live in Sydney and have travelled alot around Australia. I think the weather is perfect.. not too hot not too cold...very comfortable..No it is not tropical! There is a little bit of crime.. i think alot of it is people that know the wrong sort of people.. I mean it is safe to walk the streets, there is nowhere i am scared to walk.. but i at the same time i wouldn't walk the streets of the city in the middle of the night on my own.
Hope that helps |

Sydney has warm to hot rather humid summers and mild winters. The rainfall is spread approximately evenly through the year. You need a jumper in winter and perhaps a coat at night. On the coldest nights it can frost, maybe a couple of times per year. In summer you definitely need airconditioning.
The crime rate is low everywhere in Australia, particularly the violent crime rate. Australia, including Sydney, is very safe. There isn't anywhere in Sydney I wouldn't walk by myself at night, although I'd stay clear of quiet city back streets and avoid areas where people are drinking if I was by myself. Most Australians have never in their lives been directly affected by crime. My understanding is that Sydney's crime rates are no higher than any other Australian cities. |

Sydney has mostly fine sunny weather, I wouldn't say Indian summer but it's nice weather. But it's been raining since yesterday. Most crimes rated high in Sydney are mainly in raves, binged drinking and drugs related. Eastern suburbs has lower and less serious crime rate than western. |

I would describe Sydney as a subtropical climate. It is a lot more humid than Victoria or Tasmania. It can rain and be overcast but is still hot and sticky.
I don't find there is much crime in Sydney. Been living here for 5 years and have experienced any crime. Have a play around with this link

What has the weather got to do with crime rates ?
No Sydney isn't tropical. You will need to go much further north if you want tropical.
Sydney has normal weather. Cold and raining at times in winter and can get damm hot in summer. |

No today. It's all rainy and drizzly. It's not too bad - no snow or freezing temperatures, and we had a few really hot days this summer, but not usually uncomfortably hot either. As for the crime rates, I really don't think they're any worse than other cities. I've been here for 9 years, and haven't been burgled or mugged or anything like that... |

You're right it's not tropical it has a subtropical climate which means long hot sunny summers and mild rainy winters. The daytime temperature never goes below 15c or so in winter and the summer temperatures rarely exceed 40c. As for the crime, the city is predominantly safe but gets more dangerous the further west you go, but unless you choose to live there you would have no reason to visit those areas after dark so you'd be perfectly safe. |
