How about walking around the eucalyptus trees and seeing the koala bears. I was near the race track (that's another thing to do) and they had a place (I think it was free) where you got to hold a Koala bear. They are kind of itchy and woolly, not soft like I had thought they would be. Have a great time. |

Take a long ride on the CityCat, for a cheap tour of the river.
Visit Lone Pine Koala sanctuary.
Visit the Botanical Gardens - in the City and at Toowong.
Take a stroll on the river walk.
Riverside Markets on the weekend.
Visit Southbank

Definitely buy a one day pass to take the river cats for an all day site seeing trip. Go to the botanical gardens and look for a "kookaburra." Try your luck at the casino--maybe you can afford a trip to the Croc Hunter's Zoo or an Australian Rules football game if you win. We were there in late August and there was a HUGE fair to attend then. Visit the University of Queensland and look around. Sit on the manmade sand beach along the river. You will love it--a beautiful modern city. |

You could visit some places that don't cost a thing such as the Lone Pine Animal Sanctuary (which is known for its koalas). There are also some Old Botanic Gardens, and there's the Brisbane Forest Park. And if you're into the arts, there's the Queensland Arts Centre which is a cluster of ultramodern buildings that stand alongside structures from earlier times such as the city hall, old government house, and post office.
Hope this helps!
Have fun on your trip! :) |

The theme parks are great. I know they are a little bit costly, but you are busy for the whole day. Or if you buy the 3 park pass - you get 4 days out of it.
Also, have a think about heading down to the gold coast - the beaches are great and some great window shopping. |

You should check out ourbrisbane.com
It's got heaps of activities and things listed and it includes a freebies section.
It depends on the things you like to do though. You can go to the Mount Coot-tha lookout and botanical gardens; City Botanic Gardens (in Alice Street in the city); Roma Street Parklands; Southbank (the markets are very good); the museum and art gallery; the Science Centre; City Hall (inlcudes the Museum of Brisbane) - and you can go up the clock tower (I don't recommend doing this at midday though!); buy a daily Translink pass and go up and down the Brisbane River on a CityCat; go to Newstead House (the oldest surviving "private" residence in Brisbane)...I could go on and on.
You could also head an hour either north (to Sunshine Coast) or south (to Gold Coast) and spend some time there. Also many National Parks in and around Brisbane AND both coasts. Your choice. |

The Southbank parklands are amazing. They have a man made beach where you can swim, and BBQ facilities available throughout.
The botanical gardens are amazing- and you can even walk through the mangroves in along brisbane river
Kangaroo point has a rock-climbing wall.
Lone pine is noce- but not what I call a budget outing.
The southbank, balmoral and hawthorne cinemas (www.cineplex.com.au) have very cheap films.
Currumbin wildlife sanctury is much more fun for value than most if the theme parks. But just don't call Koala's 'koala bears' or one of us will start swearing at you.
There are lots of parklands everywhere in Brisbane, and in summer there are free movies at southbank parklands. There are also movies at night in the park at the botanical gardens.
www.ourbrisbane has some great links, but don't be afraid to get in the car and go for a drive- see where you end up! |
