i can give you one negative for going.. and that is the weight of your suitcase with me inside it !!!!
Seriously, i have thought about your question and i cannot think of one reason why i would stay if i was in your shoes. Go fill your boots and leave this pocky country (UK) with its high taxes and crap weather, good luck , green with envy.

I'm an Australian but I'd have to say that New Zealand is the best country on earth. I'd love to live there. The south island is simply stunning. Peaceful, polite, rugged. It's just heaven!

Raqs
lots of sheep and too quiet.

We did a month's driving tour of New Zealand in April and the only negatives we saw were ....... erm ... actually there weren't any! It's a fantastic country with fantastic people and a really laid back feeling. We'd emigrate there in a minute if they'd have us - unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much call for two professional lager louts in those parts!! My advice would be GO FOR IT! And good luck!

i would say the big thing is less population so less demand for things, less choice. e.g. less food choice then english supermarkets, don't get the movies as soon as the UK or as many, less shops etc. and other little things like that they will add up and you will notice it loads when you return to the UK.

I went there 4 years ago to visit my sister. It was somewhere I'd never wanted to go and we argued like hell, but I'm glad I went there, it's a fantastic place with every type of landscape you could wish for. It feels like an exotic England. Friendly people, but a bit behind the times (they all seem to have food intolerances, which let's face it, is SO nineties!) Of course you have to say the place is wonderful and it is, but they need reassurance for living in what some people regard as the ****-end of the world (and I ashamedly admit telling my sister I wouldn't visit her in that "Godforsaken place")
You should go. Go for it. I'm hoping to do some antipodean travelling myself next year. Good luck

It's a long way from the UK to get home in an emergency and expensive, and earning potential is limited. Apart from that I too can only think of positives. Go for it.

Aussieblonde -bundy'd
one negative would be - "do the kiwi's want you there?"

Travellin Bry
There's a few inconsequential negatives including, terrible public transport, salary to cost of living isn't that great, not much culture, fashion means very little.

But really it's a great place with very friendly people and the standard of living is very good, food is excellent and free, especially sea food, scenery is breath taking, buying a house is very affordable as is building your own!!

I've been here for a year form the UK and really cannot see myself leaving, it's a bit like home but with less problems, friendlier people and a better climate.

Come over it's great

NZ is a lovley place, but all comes down to what you want from it. Personally now I am bored with it. Theres nuthing much to do, but thats coming from someone who has lived their all my life!!

Misha-non-penguin
The only negative is for people like myself who are over 30 & skint so can't get work visa/sponsor etc etc. If you've got the chance GO FOR IT. I'm envious! NZ is paradise.

putonyourflipflops
No go for it anythings better than here!!!!

echo c
depends where you are now & why you are escaping ...

possible negatives:

it's a long way away (from anywhere)

smaller population & more remote, so probabaly less "culture" - which is fine if you aren't bothered by that sort of thing

no sure about the job situation - less flexibility perhaps?

a bit like Canada (if u know what i mean :)

Must be a sailor or a sheep farmer to really enjoy it. You're at the end of the world. Sports consist of rugby, cricket and lawn bowls so you better be into these. I've heard say that, statistically, the majority of younger New Zealanders would choose to emmigrate.

im assuming you are from the uk........but no matter......its miles from home. and very expensive should you need to get back in a hurry for any reason.

Yeah, there's more sheep than people. And Asutralia just about smashes them at most sports. Oh and if NZ is such a great place how come half of em live in Australia. If your an Aussie and go to live in NZ the IQ's of both countries shall increase over night.

1) The accent will drive you round the bend
2) Kiwis are never wrong about anything, sport, food weather etc
3) The fashion is about 10 years behind the rest of the world
4) mullets rule over there
5) Yes the landscape is beautiful but they wont fail to remind you how nice it is all the time
6) They have rival "gangs" who sell drugs , run hookers and fight other rival gangs
7) they have a massive drug problem with P (amphetamines)

thats all i can think of for now!
