I have lived here in Sydney for 14 years, after living in the U.S. I love it here. No moral majority (minority) here. Coffee is ten times better than that in the U.S. Real estate is expensive, but less than San Fran or NYC. Traffic is pretty bad but better than L.A. People drive slower on the roads and the pace of life is a bit slower than in the U.S. You are never more than 30 minutes from beautiful beaches. If you are willing to work hard you can be very successful here as most people are pretty laid back. There is less competition for the $. The medical system is better here than the U.S, with much cheaper private insurance and Medicare for everyone. Gas is more expensive and food is too, but the variety and quality of produce and food is better. It is more multicultural, so better selection of restaurants and more tolerance for others. No major problems here with gangs and guns and shootings are a rarity although happening more than when I first arrived here. |

Sydney is a fantastic place for a tourist but its very expensive to live there up to other cities and areas of Australia, we were there in June and as much as I love Sydney I think I'd rather buy a house in Melbourne, a heck of lot cheaper to live there and Sydney is only an hours flight away. |

The public transport system made no sense to this Victorian, but the double-decked trains were a plus - really eased congestion. |

The traffic is pretty full on but at least it moves at a decent pace most of the time. The weather is very humid in December to February. And Sydney really lacks in decent, small, interesting bars. It's got plenty of huge gross hotels that beer swigging unevolved men hang out in.
That's it. Everything else about Sydney is great. It's warm, sunny, great beaches, great markets, a gorgeous harbour with plenty of good walking tracks. It's got ferries that take you to some of the nicest suburbs in Sydney. And if you do end up here, and need to work out where to live, you may find this website useful - www.cityhobo.com |

Sydney housing can be expensive and public transport provides only limited access to some areas, but wages are good and there is plenty of work.
Anyone thinking of settling in Australia might like to visit several different places, because each city and state is quite different to live in, but certainly don't miss out on Sydney :-)
Cheers :-) |

It depends where you're moving from, it's all relative. Personally I think the only downside is the cost of property, it's much more expensive than I expected. If you're expecting to have a big house with a pool then look at Brisbane instead. However I can't think of many faults and Sydney is a beautiful city. |

As long as you have the money then go for it. I have been told that it is very expensive to live there. |
