Airlines are pretty tight on baggage allowances these days so my advice would be to pack enough outfits for a normal weeks living, then throw in a few extra 'smart' outfits. You will not be able to fit in 3 weeks worth of fresh clothing, so resign yourself to the fact that you will have to do some laundry anyway, so may as well travel fairly light.

Baggage allowance varies from airline to airline, but one tip is to remember not to put everything into one bag, as each bag has a weight/size limit as well to protect the baggage handlers. You don;t want to be checking in and find that your bag is too heavy and have to unpack stuff at the counter. As a guide, work to max 20kg in each bag, up to your overall allowance. If below your overall allowance, all the better - leaves you room to bring back souveneirs.

Nights are getting cooler in Sydney, so bring a light jacket/cardigan.

Aussies are outdoor people, so swim gear/trainers essential.

If flying economy, consider getting an aisle seat if you are average height or taller. Gives you the chance to stretch your legs, which will be appreciated on such a long flight.

Lastly, pack a few basic toiletries for the flight, but in very small containers - I think any liquids greater than 30 ml will be confiscated (should check) , but if you have a layover, you will appreciate the chance to freshen up. (If layover is fairly long, Singapore airport is excellent, with cinema/pool/showers and one of the best shopping experiences.)

Hi, just want to clarify a few things for you.

The Gold Coast is not in Brisbane - it is a completely different city and the 6th largest city in Australia. It is about an hours drive away so it it still accessible. Also it is nowhere near Sydney which is about a 2 hour plane flight or 10 hour drive away.

However, you are still in a great location and there will be plenty to do. Check out the theme parks on the Gold Coast - Dreamworld, Movie World and Wet and Wild - heaps of fun. The beach is a must as the Gold Coast has some of the best beaches in Australia, there are no good beaches in Brisbane.
The Gold Coast has heaps of shops, clubs, bars, cafes etc in Surfers Paradise plus there are loads of travel agencies in this area if you want to arrange day trips for sightseeing.

There is also plenty to do in Brisbane, so check out www.ourbrisbane.com.au. Also it is easy to get from the Gold Coast to Brisbane, get the train from helensvale station right into Central Station (check out www.transinfo.com.au for more information).

I'm not familar with the place you are going to the wedding, but I am guessing that it is at Mt Tamborine which is about 55 mins from Brisbane. If so you will need to take a shawl or jacket with you to the wedding as it does get quite cool at night in this area.

Remember to bring a good pair of sunglasses a hat and suncream. I know I sound like your mum but the sun is really unforgiving in this part of the world.

Australians are generally very friendly and helpful to tourists and it is extremely rare for a local to try to scam a tourist.

Where in Australia are you going? I went to my cousins wedding 2 years ago at that time of year. It was in Brisbane. weather was like summer here. Very little rain. warm enough for summer clothes but not shorts every day. I spent a year travelling in Oz 10 years ago. I spent April in Melbourne & Adelaide. Melbourne was only about 10 degrees. Sydney was in the 20s then. Perth area is warm but wet that time of year. middle of Oz is desert and a bit cold at that time.take mosquito repellent, a rain jacket, good walking shoes or runners, sunblock, all you need for the wedding, money, travel insurance etc. Have a great time.

Your going to gave a great time! There are some great tips here. The only thing I would add is I came across a free e-book on Australia that would have information on the weather, local sites and tips on traveling to Australia. Its at www.LetsGotoAustralia.com.

See you here!

Take some hangover cure. If your Ozzie friends are anything like mine you'll probably need it. You can buy anything in Sydney and things are generally about the same price or less than in the UK. If you are Scottish or have any Scottish blood in you wear something tartan or with a Scottish logo on it. Doors open for you and you make many new friends. Have a bonzer time.

Plan for the flight first.
Its a long way, and many hours in the air will bore you.
Dint drink to much alcohol as this makes you dehydrated and prolongs jet fatigue.
Water is the key. Drink plenty and fend off jet lag.
This can really spoil your short stay, and you really need to be fresh for such a big occasion.
After you get there you can then buy locally anything you need.
Australia is a super country...enjoy!

You'll be here for ANZAC Day.
It's worth getting out of bed for the Dawn Service.
There will be one near you, no matter where you are.

ANZAC Day Commemoration.
Australia and New Zealand commemorate the ANZAC Day public holiday on 25 April every year to honour the bravery and sacrifice of the members of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC), and of all those who served their country. In Australia and New Zealand, ANZAC Day commemoration features solemn "dawn services".
A tradition started in Albany, Western Australia on 25 April 1923 and now held at war memorials around both countries, accompanied by thoughts of those lost at war to the ceremonial sounds of Last Post on the bugle.

The Gold Coast is located approx 80 km south of Brisbane. Is the wedding on the GC (Gold Coast) or in Brissy (Brisbane)?

Here is a site with information on getting around the area:
http://www.translink.com.au/

Things to do on the GC:
http://www.goldcoast.qld.gov.au/t_standard.aspx?PID=3

About Brisbane:
http://www.ourbrisbane.com/visitors/seeanddo/

I've heard that the Story Bridge climb is worthwhile- might be a good idea to book soon if you are interested.
http://www.brisbanecitylife.com.au/bcl/wotson.htm

Between Brisbane and the GC are a number of theme parks, but I'm sure your friend has told you about that.

Have fun and remember that SE Queensland is in a drought and water restrictions apply.
