What are the reasons so many Kiwis move to Australia?
Your country is beautiful and fabulous, your lifestyle good, the country is (fairly) politically stable.
Why leave all that?...

I am a Brit soon to be heading to Australia for a year. I will be signing up for "Medicare" as soon as I arrive. Shall I get more travel insurance? I only have a bag of old clothes which don't need insuring-if hospital treatment is covered on medicare than surely I don't need more. I don't have any insurance in the UK. I will be working. Any advice would be appreciated, cheers.
Does medicare cover repatriation if you need to come home (accident or illness)? If it does then OK but if it doesn't then you should really take out travel insurance. You don't have insurance in the UK because you live here, if you get injured then getting you home is not a problem. Getting you home from Australia is a bit more of an issue.

Squaremouth is a comparison site that has UK and USA websites. You should try both as the American site can provide great cover for Brits also.
I honestly don't know what the best thing to do is - your travel insurance will cover other things like personal injury or lost baggage and possessions but I don't know if you'd be covered if you're working full time.
That said, if you wanted a cheap policy for peace of mind this place http://www.travelinsuranceweb.com is supposed to be the cheapest with a price gurantee if you find it cheaper anywhere else.

you would be crazy not to take out travel insurance too! Trust me you should take it. It covers unforseen things like death, flight delays, lost baggage, cost of your holiday if you should have to cancel!!!!

I used World nomads while I was travelling and they were fantastic.

Don't take a chance. You never know.
I am in the CSMA and buy my travel insurance through Frizzell whom I reckon have to be at the top.
But you can use a comparison site like moneysupermarket.

Australia you need to pay for everything, so if you go to the doctor, it will cost $69, Medicare gives you $50 back. It is like that for everything. Doctors, dentists, physiotherapy. You pay and medicare give you some of it back. Travel insurance should cover the rest.
