Wayne there are no maori in australia

Bingalee
It is the biggest monolith in the world for one thing. It is a sacred site to the aboriginals in Australia & has always been a popular tourist destination here.

Kelly's Belly
It's that huge rock--Ayer's Rock--in Australia in the middle of nowhere. It's red. Get to Wiki.

Lisa
whoever said that its "significant to the Maori"

LOL!!!

♥liv
It's the biggest monolith (single rock) in the world. It has significance to the ABORIGINAL people of outback Australia, not the Maoris of NZ, although not as much as many people think. Back in the 80s a lady Lindy Chamberland was camping there and her baby was taken and eaten by a dingo and she went to jail for murder. Now, it's quite funny, there's signs up at Yulara (uluru campsite/hotel) saying 'watch out for dingoes, they're dangerous - especially to children'.
Personally, I think Kata Tjuta is cooler - look it up, kinda similar to Uluru, but heaps of rocks not just the one...if wasn't so close to uluru (like 20km or something) it'd be a huge deal, but noone cares cos everyone comes to see ayers rock. It's also a much better walk/climb.

1. famous crime scene for the Azaria Chamberlain criminal case "a dingo's got my baby" fame.

2. Huge monolith rock that stands out from the rest of the desert plain. Geologically it is the worlds largest single rock.

3. Famous for the way it changes shades of colour throughoutt the course of any given day in all kinds of hues.

4. Centre of many Central Australian Aboriginal tribes religious beliefs and history concerning the "dreamtime"

note to other answerers: The Maori are indigenous to New Zealand not Australia.

It rocks!!! A famous volcanic outcropping in the middle of a wasteland. It has huge religious significance to the Maori... they would rather no one tries to climb it.
