Don't worry about the deadly creatures: they're here, but you'll go years without hearing about any encounter with humans. More people die from falling trees here than from any animal, reptile or insect - apart from bees. If you're not a drunken idiot the wildlife's pretty well behaved.
Of all the places in Australia, suburban Queensland's lifestyle is probably the most like Neighbours. There are plenty of places left that haven't been turned into bad taste development. They're disappearing rapidly, but they're here!
Most of Australia's a very relaxed and cheerful place to be. Just don't take yourself too seriously. We're expert at deflating anyone we think is up themselves. |

I've just moved from Queensland to the States, and I miss it so much! Endless positives, weather is wonderful. Perfect if you want to be more active! Around Christmas time it gets really hot, they're going through a pretty bad drought in Queensland at the moment (limit of 2 min showers, no baths allowed). Winter isn't that bad in Queensland, a lot of rain and cool winds, colder nights. I never wore thermal anything, never got that cold. I hope this info helps. |

Having read your profile I'm pretty sure you could settle anywhere.
I am not really qualified to answer your question , but I have travelled about the world a bit, and along with a lot of Nationalities I have worked with many Australians.
I can say they must be the most laid back folk on the planet !
If any one is really good at 'winding folk up ' I am, I have never managed to 'wind up' any of these folk.
I have got a bit of the usual 'pommy whinging basta*d' bit, but not very often, and only if I really push it.
Believe me if I could think think of a negative side I would tell you!
Not sure where you are thinking of moving from , but with your job you will be welcomed, and despite all the stories of 'creepy crawlers insects' I suggest any move away from the UK would be a good move.
Whats the worse thing that could happen, you may want to move back here?? |

you're still asking questions!!!!
just go for it - arrive with a positive attitude and the expectation that it will be totally different from home. - new food, new culture,
don't make comparisons. |

Australia is a great place, there is not many negatives that I can think of, only that it is bloody hot in summer and freezing in winter. If you are travelling you might be able to move with the weather change. People are very friendly over here and life is a lot more relaxed.Especially in the country towns |

Australia and particularly Queensland are the worst places to live in the world except for all the others. You will not be particularly laid back if you live in Brisbane.
Pick a large country town like Toowoomba, Townsville, even Maryborough, Gympie, Rockhampton, Gladstone, Mackay, Bundaberg. All of these have their good and bad points. Despite smart alec stuff you might hear, they are not only populated by hicks.
I once lived in Rockhampton (about 55,000 pop'n then) but I would say Toowoomba is the pick of the provincial cities in Q'ld. Population is somewhere over 115,000. Fairly close to Brisbane if you need it, but big enough to have good facilities of it's own. Climate can be a shade cooler because of its elevation. Has a large hospital, good schools too, some shopping malls and conventional shopping too.
Each of these places have websites and some of them can be found on Wikipedia.

Negative-Queensland has more deadly creatures than anywhere else in the world! Most of Australia has nasty spiders. Also there are a lot of Australians!
On the plus side it is a beautiful country and they make good films and soaps. |
