Want to move from US to Australia. Advice please

Hi,
I am currently in US and wants to move to Australia. I am in the software field and my girlfriend is a dentist. I would like to know your opinion about whether it is a good idea to leave US and move to Australia. Basically, I want to know about the life style, work opportunities (i believe software engg has best option in US), and work option for dentist. Any advice is helpful.
Thanks,

Have never been to the US b4, but know of 2 families who moved from US to Aus, quite a few years ago. They regularly go back to visit relations but can't wait to get back here. They say we have it so good compared to the USA. They say Aus is a better place to raise their children. We love the outdoors and are passionate about our sport. Eg Cricket, Footy. From a job prospective, the country is booming at present and our aussie $ is doing quite well against the greenback. Research your industry well. Also check out job recruitment sites. the largest job network site in Australia is called Job Search.gov.au If u google it you'll get the correct address.
Good Luck!

Australia has a Skilled Migration program (http://www.aph.gov.au/Library/intguide/SP/Skilled_migration.htm) that encourages skilled immigrants to live in Australia.

Both Dentistry and IT are in demand and, despite the nonsense you may hear from some people that immigrants are not employed, there are a myriad jobs to go around, and MOST of them are filled by people who have migrated to Australia or have temporary work visas. The majority of the people I work with in IT (I am an IT professional) are Chinese, Indian, American, Canadian, Malaysian, Pakistani, Turkish... just to name a few of the co-workers I can see around me right now...

Most of the work (and the best pay) will be found in 1st, Sydney and in 2nd, Melbourne. Sydney is more expensive to live in, so the wages/contract rates sort of even out.

I encourage you to do your research with Asutralian govenrment agencies first, then come out on a temporary work visa; if all goes well, then apply for permanent residency status and citizenship.

Good luck!

We have a shortage of dentists here, in fact we have a skill shortage in just about every type of skilled work you can imagine!

We are a pretty laid back bunch, that's even more obvious if you head further inland away from the cities.

You can't beat the outback for hospitality & your girlfriend would be very welcome. There are alot of oppertunities for software eng in rural australia too.

Our climate can be a bit extreme, just take it as it comes.

The only advice I can give you is that if you do decide to come over to Australia make sure you leave your big yankee ego over there.

My uncle lives in Australia ! He also works in the software computer field, he loves his job, and software and technology stuff there is on the rise, so he says. Australia is beautiful and a very relaxing place to live. There are also many work opportunities especially in Sydney & Melbourne.

GREEN DAY is ♥
Im writing from Austalia, i live here. I was born here. Its hard to say cos when you live here its totally different, i mean i would LOVE to live in the U.S. and you would love to live in Australia. I guess your never happy with were you live.
Well anyways, you can get a job just about any were over here, its pretty much the same (job wise).
Its a very laid back life style over here, everyones really nice and laidback. You wont have a prob fitting in over here! just chill and youll be fine. People love the beach, so rememebr to bring your swimmers. Good luck!

Beware! We just spent 2 years in Aus, having moved there on a Qld-sponsored visa because they wanted my hubby's IT skills ... trick was we couldn't live in major centres because they wanted the skills to go into outlying areas. Fair enough, that's what we wanted, too - we're not city-dwellers. Hubby never got a job despite gazillions of applications - Aussies apparently don't like hiring outsiders because its "unaustralian", according to some HR people we spoke to, and because its harder for businesses to lay off immigrants than Aussies. We're now back in Canada, working and starting again from scratch! Hope you have better luck that we did!

HI i live in Ipswich 45 min from the gold cost good spot to b, I'm looking to go to the USA so i can not think of no good resone for you to leave there but if you leave. you will get a job if you wont to work we have a lot of people that just don't work at all. your dentist girlfriend will get a job no prob.

Just so you no ther Are no pikup's well no big pikups with V8.(f250 got imported from 2001-2006)
And you will not be abell to have a gun well not without jumpin thru hoops for the rest of your life.
In a lot of ways Australia is not so much of a free country will you can do what you want but only if the guverment will let you .
Git this in most or australia you can not have a slingshot an in all of australia you nead a gun licence to have a bb gun or even a air soft gun.

You can send me a email if you nead more info reeksie@yahoo.com
