jenni_debuse

We are a family of four (sons aged 3+1), who are travelling to OZ - where would you recommend we stopover?

We are travelling from London to Brisbane. I think Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Brunei and Dubai are all possibilities. We would like to stopover for a good few days. Many thanks,

Jenni

Hi Jenni, I think you would really enjoy Singapore for a few days when you have young children. Yes, it is hot and humid - but aren't you travelling to experience something different?
I have taken my son to Singapore a couple of times - the first time when he was 2 years old. We chose to take him there as it is very safe, the food serving/hygeine standards are excellent as are toilet facilities - all important when you are travelling with such young children. As far as things to do there for young children - Sentosa Island has walks and swimming/beaches, cable car ride and a viewing tower, Singapore zoo is absolutely fantastic ( the best zoo I have ever seen) - take your kids to the breakfast with the orang-u-tans - it is absolutely unforgetable.
Getting around Singapore with chilren is also easy - use their MRT (subway) - even when it is crowded the people are really polite and when I had my young son we were always offered a seat (amazing!).
Hope you enjoy your trip wherever you chose.

I can recommend Singapore, a fantastic place with so much to see and do, they have something called the Duck ride which is fantastic if you have kids, its a boat that goes on land and water, you get a tour round Singapore then go on the river to see the sights there too, the kids get a duck whistle as a gift, you can book the trip in your hotel, they also do a night safari which is amazing too, kids love that, its a very hot place to go but everywhere is air conditioned as are the coaches and taxis so its great to go on tours to save you walking about in the heat with little ones, Singapore is really cheap too so its not going to cost you a fortune to see things, have an amazing trip, Australia is a fantastic country.

I stopped in Bangkok and really adored it. So much culture. I was only there for 24 hours. Toured the temples. Had a few suits made. Got a Thai massage and sampled the food which was delicious. I will go back someday.

I have been to a few of the places you have mentioned and I think Hong kong would be excellent for you but which ever you choose your hotel should be good and cater for all your needs. Choose a country you would prefer. Take a look at the travel brochures for that country to see which one you would rather stay at

Shelty K
Well Jenni, If you are a pom, I doubt that any of the places you listed will suit you. Most are excessivly humid. Hong Kong and Singapore especially. One needs terry towelling clothing to soak up the perspiration in both those areas.

Dubai?. Too much strife in Dubai to even consider a stop over. I avoid it like the plague. Guns are on display even in the airport, carried by your common arab.

Brunai is a nice place when it hasn' t got internal political stife happening .
BangKok? well when you stay over there and arrive in Australia expect to be turned inside out! This is the drug exchange country and people travelling with children are immediately under suspicion. Many a traveller has got a child to carry drugs throught the customs. So now its major shakedown.
Go straight to Brisbane, do not pass go and save your $200 for exploring the Northern regions of Queensland especially the Barrier Reef and Magnetic island.

Take a trip to Western Australia, all much better than those sleazy Asian stop overs that sap the strength and the money out of you and make you a drug suspect in Australian Customs eyes.

Elizabeth
As you're travelling with two little ones, then I've got to agree with Shelty K.
He's hit the nail on the head with his answer.

I hope you have a safe and happy trip and enjoy your time in our wonderful country.
