We are planning to visit Australia in March and we are skeptical that rains will ruin our vacation? |
My wife and I are excited to visit Australia in March, 08 but we came to know that it is raining in Australia these days. We are visiting Brisbane (Gold Coast), Cairns, Sydney and Melbourne in these 15 days. The activity schedule will be pre-booked and payments done for hotel/activities and flights. So our schedule would be mostly fixed. We are skeptical that we may end up sitting in our hotel rooms because of the rain and will not be able to see outsides or go for activities.
Can someone help us get more information on expected rains during March. |

Sorry to disappoint but rain in predicted until June. We are coming out of one of the worst droughts this country has seen.
Not all is lost - you will not need to sit in a hotel room you can still get around and see the sights. Lately the rain has been on and off so its still warm during the day - warm enough for a swim.
You need to make an effort and NOT sit in the hotel but get out and see our beautiful country and meet the friendly locals.
I am sure you will have a good time. ENJOY : )) |

Don't let the rain hold you back. It's true it has been raining quite heavily (I live in Brisbane and it's desparately needed).
As quickly as it starts it can quickly stop. It's still warm so it really shouldn't cause too much of a problem. The rain may go away completely b4 March. Enjoy your holiday! |

Rain comes and goes, and recently March has actually been the best time to come visit Melbourne, as it isn't quite as hot as February, but not usually raining.
While most of the northern regions have been getting rain lately, this is due to the tropical cyclones and ultimately tropical conditions of the north of Australia. These do not affect Melbourne or Sydney as such. In fact, Melbourne has been bone dry for quite a while. |

It's been raining off and on since December, and they've predicted more to come. You'll still have a great holiday, so don't put it off. The rain in Qld is very tropical and the weather stays warm in March. Rain in Melbourne might be a bit cooler, but you'll still be able to explore and enjoy. |

as much as the rain is a dampener on any holiday, you have pre-booked on all of your things so all I can say is if it rains, it rains.
I can garrantee though that it will rain up north in Cairns due to some tropical Cyclones (aka Hurricanes or Typhoons) and many tropical lows...but this is always expected in Cairns...if it does get really bad, the airport may close as some in Queensland did last March and the problem is that we dont know if Cyclones or big lows are going to hit until a few days before it happens.
But all you can do is wait and watch. If it rains, no one can change it so you may have to get wet....its not the end of the world. Throw in a couple of extra towels in to the backpack and if you do get drenched, then dry off when you reach your destrination.
Sydney and Melbourne are rather nice at that period. The Gold Coast can have rains due to the Cyclones up north but there is always something to do indoors in every city your going to so your only going to get wet getting into a car or bus and some tours may refund your money if it is canceled. But make the most f what is thrown at you!
good luck with it all, hope you enjoy your time here! |

I live just a bit north of Sydney and weather has been a bit glum here lately but DON'T WORRY! There will be plenty of Sunny Days for you!
Infact make sure you pack plenty of Sun Screen as we have the highest rate of melanoma's (sun skin cancers) in the world (although mainly from long term exposure with no protection so don't let that put you off!)
Weather can change quickly here so rain can clear quickly and the Sun can just come out of nowhere, but it also works the other way around! |

You know, the weather in Australia these days is like, sorry to say, "woman's temper". You cannot predict it. It changes quickly. You see a weather forecast now; and the forecast changes dramatically in 2 hours. And tomorrow, it will be something unpredicted.
I would suggest you to come to Sydney and climb the harbour bridge. No matter what weather condition it is, it is always breathtaking.
I cannot predict the weather in March. It is said that the weather gonna be wet for next two months; but hey, you will still have fun. Nice hotels, pubs, beaches, harbour bridge, wineries....
One suggestion tho... bring an umbrella, and a jumper. Jumper may not be necessary, because you can always buy a nip in the pub down the alley or... the minibar is always stocked up.
Good luck, bon voyage! |

In Melbourne, we get the most in rain in March/April. Cairns is known to flood around then. But Brisband and Sydney you may only get small showers.
The good thing about Melbourne (or bad thing, depending which way u look at it) is that it may be pouring with rain in the morning then beautiful and sunny in the afternoon. So don't worry too much, you may get a good run where it doesn't rain much at all!
We don't consider it a bad thing if it rains because of our terrible drought!! |

Ask the Australian Bureau of Meteorologggy..
Also, rain in Australia is not always unpleasant nor long-lived. it depends. |

It sucks, but I know that near where I live, Sydeny, it is expected to be raining right through march. Dam. Check with our bureau of meteorology.
All the best. |
