Well you are coming in our Winter so basically you should pack for all 4 seasons as when we have hot weather it is very humid & mostly without any wind.On the other hand we can get some cold day/night's in some part's it can get to -0 celieus-please take into account that we are in celiieus not farenheight & we have a major water shortage in the whole of the country-this means that in some towns there are no publis taps for use as we are in Stage3 water restrictions. This means that the hose can only be used on 2days a week between certain hours. We are the very hot & cold country-but you will love it.

All the official weather forecasts in Australia are issued by the Bureau of Meteorology. Their home page is http://www.bom.gov.au The BoM is the only organisation allowed, by law, to issue weather warnings. All other weather web sites are either reissuing the Bureau's forecasts or making up their own using computer generated forecasts. They cannot issue warnings.

There you will find the forecasts for everywhere in Australia as well as the climatic averages so you can see what the weather is like through the year. The observations from everywhere in Australia will also be found there so you can see what is happening right now.

There are only a few areas of Australia that snow.

I live on the East Coast and I've never seen snow, but with this global warming I think it's only a matter of time!

Layers should be fine. You can always pick up something cheap from a charity store if you need it once you get here.

Layers would be the best way to approach what clothes to bring, if you are travelling extensively across our great country. In some areas (northern tropics) you would only need light clothing. In other areas further south you would need to have a warm jacket or coat to put over the top of everything else.
Just remember, the further south you travel the colder the temperatures.
I hope you have a tremendous holiday. You'll love Australia, I know I do. I am biased though.

Today's maximum temperature in: http://weather.news.com.au/index.jsp?site=newscomau
Cairns - 25.2C or 77.36F
Rockhampton - 21.2C or 70.16F
Brisbane - 19.5C or 67F
Sydney - 14.6C or 58.28F

Layering will be fine. Cold in the southern states, Moreton Island in July should be lovely during the day, cold at night. Lucky you! Hopefully it won't be raining - if it is, you'll need all your layers! Cairns - daytime lovely, cooler at night.

winter in california = winter in perth, w.a.
cairns to harvey bay - sunny, warm - daytime - shorts & t.shirts
nights - jeans, t.shirts & fleecy jacket/vest
sunshine coast - byron bay - sunny days - cool nights - wear more layers
further south you go - i.e. sydney - melbourne - expect rain, cold to freezing at night - bring your thermals, beanie, gloves, goretex jacket
google australia weather forecasts before you leave - but it'll be this way weather wise for the next couple months.

Australia= hole, full of snobs
