What's the best beach in Australia? |
I know which beaches I think are best... but I'd be interested to know other people's opinions.
For the travellers out there, feel free to list a few - maybe one per state?
Thanks! Additional Details Thanks everyone.... some great answers!
My picks (in no particular order):
Margaret River, WA (massive surf)
Glenelg beach, SA (close to the city)
Diamond Island, Bicheno, Tas (beautiful - complete with penguin footprints)
Kurrawa beach, Gold Coast, Qld (opposite Joe's where you used to be able to get $8 jugs)
Mooloolaba beach, Sunshine Coast, Qld (awesome eating at the surf club - and a good view, too)
Freshwater beach, NSW (less tourists than the others near Sydney)
Mills beach, Mornington, Vic (for the tranquility)
Gunnamatta beach, Vic (for the surf)
Logans beach, Warrnambool, Vic (for the whales - and I was born in W'bool!)
Apollo Bay, Vic (for the scenic hills)
Mallacoota beach, Vic (for the fishing)
Carrum beach, Vic (my local)
Cheers! |

Hmmm - tough one:
My picks, in no particular oder as they all have touched my soul in some way and for very different reasons are:
Burleigh, Gold Coast, Qld
Cable Beach, Broome
Woody Heads, Northern NSW
South Stradbroke Island, Gold Coast
Yankalilla, SA
Byron Bay, NSW
Wine Glass Bay, TAS
Lorne, WA
Whitehaven, Whitsundays
Coffin Bay, SA
Yamba, NSW
Too many to count actually - I think I am most enamoured by the beaches of Northern NSW - from Coffs Harbour up |

No contest, Cable Beach in Broome is the most beautiful, least crowded beach. A lot of the beaches around Busselton in the South of WA are also beautiful |

* best island beach- lizard island
*best snorkelling/ diving beach- heron island
well that is me done

Freshwater Beach in the suburb of Harbord in Sydney's northern beaches. Because this beach is not very long and has cliffs on both sides, it is relatively protected and free of riptides. It doesn't have the same world recognition as Bondi, but in my opinion that makes it better. Nor is it as trashy or over-developed as the Gold Coast Beach, which is always on the news because people drown there, and is not a very nice beach in the first place.
Manly Beach is also pretty good if you want the cosmopolitan and bohemian lifestyle, some decent shops and the corso and a few pubs, more laid back. |

I've lived in three states...
Western Australia: Ningaloo Reef or Turquoise Bay, both Exmouth... absolutely stunning, great snorkelling and warm temperatures.
Tasmania: Sandy Bay Beach or Marion Bay... SB beach has lots of little shops around and the park etc etc... Marion Bay is very peaceful and quiet...
Queensland: Noosa or Great Barrier Reef.. Noosa has great surfing and the Great Barrier Reef well duh that's the longest reef in the world and it is spectacular if you haven't swum in it then please do so |

So many beaches mate but coming from Victoria I would have to say the 90 mile beach . Incidentally my Friend I concentrated the first entries in my blog on the Mornington Peninsula . I included a post on Bush rangers Bay on the Flinders Rosebud Road.
There is no vehicle access in there but it is only about a 3.5 km walk in and well worth it .
Please take a look.
To get to my 360 go to my Q&A and follow the link to my 360 . Then take the link to my blog .
In there is a highlighted link to Bush Rangers Bay Check it out

I come from South Australia so I would have to say our beaches are the best.
My favourite would have to be Port Rickaby on the Yorke Peninsula,
Then Christies Beach, Southport, Glenelg, Maslins (nudist beach), O'Sullivans beach as well |
