What's the best transport if I want to travel from Adelaide to Melbourne? |
The cheapest way will be the best way, and also I heard that there are beautiful views along the road to Melbourne. So what do you suggest?

As I have travelled alot to Melbourne for training for the Commonwealth Games (and many of them was for one day) I recommend you drive over to Melbourne. Now It might not be the Cheapest but look at it the way I did when I went over there.
If you take the train you don;'t see that much really. Sure you see the country side and you may even see the big Koala. And you need to hire a taxi or a car to take you anywhere outside of Melbourne.And it cost you alot if you go on the tours to see the sights
If you fly by plane, then you don't see very much at all. When you arrive in Melbourne you need to get a taxi back into Melbourne and it is a fair hike back to the city. And once again, you need acar to see anything outside of Melbourne.
So if you take your car, you can drive anywhere you want to, you can stop anytime you want to, and you can stay or leave when you want to.
Take it from me, if I didn't have my car whilst I was in Melbourne I would have been lost. My other friends took the train, and they all said they wished they could have taken their cars with them. |

Train or coach would be the cheapest, if there is only one of you (hiring a car could be cheaper if there are more travelling together). It's about 800 kilometers (500 miles).
Both train and coach tend to cut inland somewhat and so you miss the Great Ocean road which is one of the World's great car journeys. It has a site : http://www.greatoceanrd.org.au/index.asp

Well it depends on how many of you are going. If it's just you I would say plane or train, planes to Melbourne are so cheap these days and it only takes about an hour. Trains are even cheaper but not a very comfortable way to travel, so I've heard. If there are a few of you driving is probably the cheapest way to go.
The first half of the trip is BORING. Flat, dry, paddocks as far as the eye can see. But if you take the Great Ocean Road to Melbourne you will see some stunning views including the Twelve Apostles - famous rock formations on the coast. There are some very gorgeous little towns along there too. It's a lovely drive and probably worth the excruciatingly dull first half of the trip. The whole drive takes about 8 or 9 hours (at the speed limit) with a few short stops. Have fun and a safe trip : ) |

Definitely the cheapest and easiest to arrange isThe FireFly Bus from Franklin Street Bus Station every (either) daytime or overnight. It's around $ 60 I think? It is a bit of a drag but is reliable and a good service generally. Not the most picturesque journey in Oz but if you wanted to go Great Ocean Road you would need a car. Also the Overland train is ok but also a drag and very slow. The only advantage there is you can stretch out and snooze or walk around a little but it IS VERY slow and more expensive.
Dont buy an old van like me and break down in some map dot called"Yumali" (even the local cops said where!??) then the one & only night bus flew past at 110kms / hr. while I was on the phone ! :) Have fun ! |

try the Train from Adelaide to Melbourne. Its not expensive. One way is only $57 dollars. Its called the Overland.

If you've got time to travel I would say that traveling in the Great Ocean Road is the best way, but I heard that could be lots of traffic there and it could be hard to get a hotel.
Traveling by train is really boring, and not comfortable.
Plain could be the good choice if you have the money and you want to do it quickly. The prices are really expensive now, but if you'll wait till the middle of January you'll get very good prices.
