What's the best way to get from Sydney to Perth?

I'm planning a trip to Perth, and it's way cheaper to fly from Hawaii to Sydney, so I need some cheaper alternate ways to get to Perth. I looked up flights, but all I can find are at $900 and up. I'm considering anything right now, so bus, train, whatever.

Site links are much appreciated.

The weekday flights are definately the cheepest. Check out www.studentflights.com or virgin blue's website or Qantas or JetStar. The Indian Pacific is an amazing journey but is relatively expensive unless you can stand just sitting for the 3 day journey and you have to pay extra for food. I wouldn't go for bus because it's rather expensive. The journey is quite long by bus and it chews up petrol so prices r just going up and up.
So yeah,l best option is a weekday flight at around $200 - $400 depending on the time of year

Midweek flights are cheaper (see link).
Virgin offer flights from $230 one way. Use the Webjet site and look for cheaper days, it will be cheaper than a train fare, and a bus trip will take about 4 days. Also go to the Jetstar site and look for special fares, although they don't fly directly from Sydney to Perth, going via Melbourne will still cost you about $250-$300.
If you are flexible with your days, you should be able to save both time and money.

Online direct with airlines is the cheapest for domestic flights within Australia- no doubt.
Online cheapies are
www.jetstar.com
www.virginblue.com
www.tigerairways.com

In the case of Tiger they fly out of Newcastle(160kms north of Sydney) to Melbourne to Perth.
There was a Tiger to Melbourne for $50 and one Melbourne to Perth for $150 last time I looked

you need to book with virgin blue on line its cheaper take a flight mid week mon to thursday and go for the late night flight its always cheaper. train and bus are far to expensive

otherwise Im sure a bus or Train ride would be nice but i wouldnt mind bettting it would take about a week and would no doubt be MORE expensive! ... Would see nice scenery of nullabor etc though =)

I have flown from Sydney to Perth for AUD199.00 with Virgin Air and that was during the school holiday in Australia. I booked 3 months in advance though.

You will need to browse their site for the cheapest fares. Bus and train will cost more and it'll be a long journey!

The Indian Pacific train, Sydney - Adelaide - Perth takes 3 nights.

Costs between A$315 and A$1,920 each way.
