It really isn't that far, and there are so many wonderful places to visit in between. Are you single, and travelling alone? Why not stay in the hostels? That way you can hook up with other travellers, and go with them in their car. You only need to kick in for petrol and you'll have loads of fun on the way. Petrol is pretty cheap here, around $1 per litre.

Australia is a very laidback country, everybody is really friendly. Still I would never ever recommend hitchhiking.

Public transport is dirt cheap. You can hop on the train, or the greyhound or one of the other numerous bus companies.

You will definatley have a great time!

Surfers is an hour south of Brisbane. Catch the train from Robina.

Well a car would be cheapest. It would only use about 5L which would be around $5

Fuzzy Wuzzy
there is a shuttle bus, I think it's around $20. If there is a few of you, you may want to hire a car and drive.
There is also the air train. Not sure how much that is, but it's cheap enough too....

Usually by the train. It runs every 30 minutes down to the Coast and back again. Can't remember the exact fare but about $10 AU.
I found this site http://www.affiliate.viator.com/brochure/results_2.jsp?CONTINENT=Australia+and+South+Pacific&COUNTRY=Australia&CITY=Brisbane&REGION=Queensland&PRODUCT_TYPE=Transfer&PRODUCT=SITours_NEW&ISO_3166=au&AUID=4274&SUBAUID=null
have a look at the roo pass which seems good value and adds in trips to the theme parks.

hairstylistmichelle
The train is very cheap about $10

mad_mick001
