Father's side -5th at the most and almost all English (Ilminster, Somerset) with one Irish - Australian there.

Mother's side, well I never quite worked it out but I'm pretty sure it's 7th, the first arrivals were in 1791. An English soldier, as it happens who managed to get himself condemned to death at an advanced age here in Australia as a result of some nefarious activities. However the sentence was commuted to life by Gov. Macquarie on a Christmas Eve. Seems that was fairly common then.

More recently on my mothers side the people were highland Scots from around Drumnadrochit near Loch Ness (no monsters ever spoken of) and Scots-Irish from Limavady, Ulster.

I think I'm 5th generation Australian....like the majority of Aussies, my ancestory goes back to England, Scotland and Ireland.

Mel
I'm 2nd generation.
All four of my grandparents were born in Holland, they were raised as Australians though not as Dutch.

I may have dutch ancestry but I'm as Aussie as they come.

This is an interesting question- and not easy to answer.

The first person on my maternal grandfathers side was a doctor at Port Arthur, not sure about my maternal grandmother- but pre-20th century at least. (So that's about 5th or 6th generation)

On my fathers side however, I am first generation. He was born in Germany after the war, and he and his family moved here in the mid-50's.

My hubby is also 1st - his parents were born in England.
We'll probably be last generation Australia too as we don't intend on having any kiddies...

6th generation. my first ancestors on these shores were german settlers (my great great great grandparents) who came here in the early 1800s.

my ancestry is italian german and irish.

Kevin
I think I'm 4th generation, not completely sure though. (it doesn't sound very far back when you think of it!)
My ancestors are from Scotland mostly. Some from England, Ireland, Germany, and probably some other place. My closest non-Aussie ancestors are Scottish, and the furthest ones that we've traced back to (1600's!) are also Scottish.
