Advance Australia Fair.

Most people only sing the first verse and most only know the first verse, if that. At primary school we had to sing the first 2 verses so I know the first one but the second one I miss a few words.

"Advance Australia Fair" is the current anthem, which replaced "God Save the Queen". It has been our national anthem for decades.

However, our unofficial anthem is Walzing Matilda, which is basically a narrative song about a grotty old swagman trying to kidnap a sheep, then killing himself when police officers arrive. More people seem to know the words to that song than the real anthem.

To those who think Waltzing Matilda should be our national Anthem, Are you saying that you would like to be remembered for stealing a sheep and then killing yourself when you are surrounded by the coppers? No thankyou. I would rather not have an anthem that says we steal sheep and then commit suicide rather than be caught.

If we need a new anthem how about I am, You are we are Australian??

Verse 2 is still known although not as well
My school (at which I teach) also sings verse 3 every week at Assemblies. I think that there are 5 verses in total?
