Yep it IS caused by off-shoring Maintenance.
Qantas WAS the safest Airline on Earth for nearly 80 years.
There has never been an accident in that time.
But the large number of near accidents since the outsourcing of Australian jobs to Singapore will definitely result very soon in a fatal accident killing 100's of people. |

I'm a Qantas shareholder, and find the whole thing very disappointing. I vehemently object to people (like Dixon) getting obscene amounts of money (as salary), while maintenance is shipped offshore - where labour - to maintain our aircraft - is massively cheaper. I personally believe that Australian workers take more pride in maintaining Qantas' reputation; whereas overseas, it's just another job.
The recent spate of *problems* have only reinforced my faith in Australia's airlines. Qantas has a safety reputation - recognised worldwide. And I think that reputation should be preserved at all costs. And if that means Geoff Dixon has to take a pay cut - then so be it.
As a shareholder - Qantas' safety reputation is my main concern. The dividends mean nothing to me. I'd rather Qantas remain the brilliant airline she is - and I am biased; but that's how I feel.
As I said, the recent *accidents* have only reinforced my faith in Australia's pilots and their skill (regardless of which airline they work for). In my book, any landing is a good landing. And getting down in one piece (no matter how bumby a landing it is), is better than a crash. JMO |

Cutting costs. Outsourcing maintenance to overseas mechanics and engineers.
You get what you pay for.....and now they're really paying for it. |

Qantas now gets their planes "services" offshore. When Aussie mechanics did this job, no problems. Now, constant issues. They still have never had a major air crash though - they used to be the only airline to be able to claim this but I am sure there are others now.
Qantas: Bring the jobs home to Oz....... |

No idea. Don't care. I always go with Emirates cos the staff and service are far far better. |

Be the sitting DUCK and waiting to be shot down. Please don't follows the many American airlines and getting their type of results. In my answer on Qantas, just take a detailed look on SIA and restudy the proposal and negotiate more more practical move to solve the very old matter and give it a new life to stand up high in this Current World.
All problems can be solved.........just take the first move on the chess board. |

Planes take off. Planes land. Over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, every day. No one dies. |
