Americans see Australians as lap dogs who follow them into stupid wars like Vietnam, Afganistan and Iraq.

love it. Australia is a great place, the people are nice, they have the best oceans, and there nightlife is GREAT!

Well, that obviously varies from person to person, but as you have probably noticed, most people think of the crocodile hunter and kangaroos.

Personally, I think of sensible, independent-minded people with a unique sense of humor (which is definitely a good thing). And kangaroos. :)

Im Not Doing What I Said I Was.
Well, i know you kinda asked for American views on Australia but I couldnt help answering. I live close to the United States, just above the border in Canada. We get a lot of steriotypes too, people think we live in igloos (i laugh so hard whenever people think we live in igloo's!) we also dont go around eating seal meat and wearing parka's all the time. We live in heated brick houses with computers, TV's (yes, we watch the Simpson's too!). Well enough about Canada and straight to your answer, I think of australia of being very hot, some parts are rural but i also think of kangaroos and outback. I am very excited because i have the opportunity to go to Australia next year and i will see what it's really like!

well Im from New York and the idea I have of Australia is based on whatever I have seen on those tourist commercials, lol, beach, sand, sun, blonde people who are friendly with these cool accents..Yeah, I know.... I need to get out of this city and see the world...

I LOVE Australia! I went there and LOVED it! I liked the Australian Zoo where the Crocodile Hunter was at... Too bad he got killed by a stingray... Stupid Stingray!

Kloipy
I think as a whole, our country likes Australia, although I think most people's ideas on Australians are based upon movies they've seen or Steve Irwin.

I think of Kangaroos, Santa on a surfboard, and Crocodile Dundee.

I think a lot of people here think that Australia is a boomerang-flinging, kangaroo-hopping, crocodile-hunting kind of country. It kind of comes off to Americans as a constant beach party filled with blond, beautiful, friendly people.

Not bad, I think. ;)

Reductio ad Absurdum
Well, my personal views are that it is one massive desert Island except on the east coast. It seems like Austrialians are really relaxed cool people, and Sydney is a cool place to vacation.

When I think of Australia, I think of Outback steak house.

People seem to think Australia is the following:
Kangaroos
Koalas
Shrimps on the barby
Nice people
Surfers
Were alot of kaki............

But that is really stereotypical.....

Yes we do have barbies.. but not every day

yes we do have beaches, but there mainly tourist attractions(we all dont live there)

Kaki.....hell no

Kangaroos dont hop dont every street ( only in some places)

There are more koalas in zoos!!!!

And were all not nice people lol
