Jan Groenveld has written several famous books about cults.
Rupert Murdoch is a famous media mogul, of course
Cate Blanchett...Russell Crowe...Paul Hogan....Hugh Jackman...Nicole Kidman...Heath Ledger...Mel Gibson....all either born or raised in Australia.
Ignatius Jones...famous producer/director of big spectacles. (2000 Olympics Opening Ceremony, for example...)
Nevil Shute was a famous author. (On the Beach...A Town Like Alice)
Alexander Fleming...penicillin discoverer
Rod Laver...famous tennis player.

Go to Wikipedia...I'm sure there are many more.

I would suggest NOT including Steve Irwin, if your report is based on Australians that have changed society.

He is simply a media personality, and is probably more famous in the US than Australia.

I would suggest, Ned Kelly (Australian Bushranger), Gough Whitlam (Former Prime Minister) , Sir Edmund Barton (First Prime Minister), Sir Henry Parkes (the 'father' of Federation) or Caroline Chisholm (womens liberalist)

Do you mean prominent Australians or natives? Your English is very poor.

How about:

Kylie
Danni
Mark Viduka and Rolf Harris

I tend to be a Ned Kelly-ophile ... HOWEVER ... I am aware that he was a criminal but his case study is extremely interesting to study.

there is proof that the Kellys were indeed persecuted by SOME of the police at the time .. and it was after the Kelly Gang was destroyed and Ned executed that there was a royal commission into the behaviour and role of the police in the circumstances of the Kelly's that incited their behaviour ...
As a result many guidelines ( many of which are still in place) were put into how the conduct of police should be.

Once again .. I am NOT saying Kelly was a Hero but definitely an australian enigma.

I think my interest comes from the kelly gang's visit to Jerilderie near where i grew up ..

Steve Irwin would NOT be one.

Historical people OF Australia would be someone like Captain Cook (even though he's wasn't actually Australian).

Others could be:
- Lleyton Hewett (former world #1 tennis champ)
- Any initial state govenor

Anyone who can get their head on a bank note is probably a "historical Australian". The link to the RBA below gives a list of the notes currently in circulation, and biographies of the people concerned. I'm sure you can plagiarise from there to finish your report.

grasshopper
As the other answers suggest, there are many historical people. but your question borders on histerical.
ps. do you ever use spell check?
