Hi there, I have'nt even stepped on airoplane myself, but i have done some research for you.

I have added some tourist links (inc a goverment immigration page) below that may help you decide about whether new zealand is a great place to visit or live. Personally if i was considering to live abroad, i would visit the place first as a short holiday, get to know the culture and the country before jumping the gun.

Anyway, good luck in finding your dream home and holiday. Heres the links:

I just took a look at your profile ! I think it best you look around the Auckland area first as it's the biggest city in NZ. If you're looking to form or play in band there Auckland would be your starting point ..... there are other smaller citys that would also your musical talents though.

You want stats? I got stats!

Statisphere is New Zealand's official statistics portal which should help you get a better sense of a country you'd be moving to.

Probably not on there is that as long as Peter Jackson is around, the country has a future (New Zealand is where he filmed all of the Lord of the Rings movies.)

not sure abt buying a house in NZ, but to live there...that'd depend on how old you are.

I was in the Southern Island of NZ in Dec '05 and it was a breath-taking place to visit!! Lots of beautiful landscape and scenery...not sure about cows, but billions of sheep...n lots of land!!!

have a mid-30's friend who lives in Christchurch and he is dying to get away cos it's so quiet and non-happening...and he is not your party-animal sort...by about 8pm ( correct me if i am wrong, anybody..) almost everything is closed, except some restuarants...I also spoke to one or two cabbies (also in their mid-30's) and they are working towards getting away from Christchurch, and NZ, cos "there's not much happening" there...

i enjoyed my visit to NZ, and i loved the scenery and "spaceciousness"....abt living there....hmmmm...that needs a lot of thinking....

I visited so long ago when my son was 2 and I was pregnant with my second - 12 years ago. What I can tell you about NZ is that it is a very "family friendly" country. Everyone seems to be interested in nature and conservation. The income seems to be very average as we did not see many huge displays of wealth among the population. Everyone raves about the south Island but we found that the coastal area just outside of Auckland airport was one of the most beautiful areas we have ever seen. People were nice but not overly friendly - very down to earth. Was not really expensive and the hotels are have a very uniform service. the whole country is beautiful, Wellington is a great city. The weather was rainy when we were there.

Good reply from Firefly.

I live in Wellington, the capital. We are literally the centre of the country, and it is much nicer here than in Auckland. (Sorry, Aucklanders!)

Houses are cheaper, jobs quite plentiful and our climate is more temperate.

New Zealand has a lot of cows!

That's if you love milk and beef and all..
