What dangerous animals are in Australia?

Also, any other issues of Australia? How about some pros and cons?

The only dangerous large animals here are crocodiles and most Aussies have never seen one because they live in the sparsely populated far north.

We have plenty of dangerous snakes, but again, most Aussies have never seen one. They're just as scared of us as we are of them and they don't see us as prey so don't come looking for us. The only people who get bitten are either very, very unlucky or very stupid because they interfere with them. Leave snakes alone and they'll leave you alone is the motto. I can't remember the last time I heard of anyone dying from snakebite, but it was many years ago.

We have some nasty spiders but the last death from a spider bite was years ago. I've lived here all my life and have never seen a poisonous spider.

Our cities and streets are far safer to live in than in most other countries and you're far less likely to be the victim of violence than in other places. We have very strict gun control laws and ordinary people live their entire lives without ever having seen a gun except secured in a police holster. I've never seen a drawn gun here but in the US have had guns pointed at me (a very law abiding citizen) on three separate occasions. I won't say that we have no terrorists here because those loonies can be anywhere, but it's certainly true to say that our isolation makes a major terrorist threat far less likely than in other places.

Australian cities are clean and very spread out with a far lower popluation density than in the UK or USA. Most families live in a house with a yard rather than in an apartment. We have nothing like the social problems and racial tension found in other places. Ours is a very multicultural and accepting society where everyone is welcome and no one ever thinks to mention what race they are because it's not something that's important to us.

Our climate is fantastic and so are our beaches and most of us live within 100km of the coast. Our countryside is beautiful and we have the Great Barrier Reef on our doorstep. Our animals are unique, beautiful and non-threatening and our country is entirely rabies free. If any mammal bites you here, it will hurt, but that's all.

Best place in the world. Come on down and visit us.

Australia's Top Ten Dangerous Animals

Australia definately has its fair share of some of the world's most painful and poisonous creatures. We have deadly spiders, and of the top ten most deadliest snakes of the world, Australia has six on the list.

1. The Box Jellyfish

2. Irukandji (A Jellyfish)

3. Salt Water Crocodile

4. Blue Ring Octopus

5. Stone Fish

6. Red Back Spider

7. Brown Snake

8. Tiger Snake

9. Great White Shark

10. Funnel Web Spider

Where I live in Australia (Far North Qld) we get most of them.

Box Monkey
Watch out for the hoop-snake. In attack mode it holds its tail in between its fangs to form a circle and rolls quickly along like a wheel till it's close enough to strike!

Drop bears, big bears that live in trees.
You have to be careful when you are walking through the bush because they will drop on top of you.

I live in North Queensland and we have crocodiles, which are dangerous and most certainly need to be left alone! Don't swim in croc infested waters or hang about the creek beds of croc infested waters and you'll be right, we recently had a guy up this way who was down by the river putting crab pots into the water and well you know the rest....

In northern waters there is also irukanji jellyfish that can be potentially lethal if not treated in time, wear a stinger suit when swimming in tropical waters and you should be ok, there are only 1cm long at best so they are not something you can just keep an eye out for. Then there are other jelly fish such as the blue bottle and box jelly fish which are rarely lethal but they pack a nasty sting and leave really bad scarring. There are also a lot of tropical fish and breeds of coral that have a nasty sting or are venomous as well as sea snakes and even some parasites like sea lice.

Dont forget the sharks, we have great white sharks they are in the southern waters, up north in the tropical waters you get sharks like bull sharks, one of the most vicious in the world, tiger sharks, hammer heads, stingray and various breeds of reef sharks.

Out bush you have dingo's, they can get a bit vicious, but out bush you can also get wild boars that grow pretty big, wild brumbies, not extremely dangerous but if your stupid and try to approach them well you're going to get hurt.

Kangaroo's can and will attack and some breeds like the red kangaroo grow as tall as a grown man and pack a powerful kick, they can do som damage when they attack.

Koala's may look cute but they have some serious claws for hanging onto trees and when they attack they can slice you open pretty good.

Then you have plenty of venomous snakes, but as one comment says above most snakes if you leave them alone they will leave you alone, a majority of snakes only attack if they really feel threatened.

Plenty of venomous spiders, the funnel web lives in the southern areas of australia, it doesnt like hot weather, up north you have to worry for spiders like trap doors, bird eating spiders (yes they do get big enough to eat birds!) and red back spiders. Unless your in a rural area or out bush you dont realllly need to worry about spiders and snakes though.

I know thats a lot of different things and I havent even listed all of them, but its actually quite rare you come accross any of them i promise! haha

We also have some pretty nasty sea creatures! various forms of jelly fish, some of which can kill you. The good thing about them is that where they are located know exactly when they will be around and close the beaches down. Then there is the blue ringed octopus which packs a bit of a sting. And of course the odd shark here and there.

We do have some snakes but I grew up in the country and my playground wash bushland and i have never seen a snake in the wild!

As with most animals, leave them alone an they will leave you alone. Do some research on the area you are visiting and follow some simple guidelines and you will be fine.

Australia is a great country and we have some pretty special things to see. From our beaches (we all reckon they are the best in the world!) to the outback. We have some of the best wine regions in the world. We have a very diverse culture and lead very social lives no matter what age you are. Sport plays a big part with most people either playing sport or watching sport as a major past time. We love a chat over a beer.

Cons?? Hmm, that is tricky. i am not sure if I can think of a con except that we are quite isolated and to et anywhere else in the world is a long plane trip (eg: USA, Europe & Great Brittain)

Just come and see for yourself. It won't matter where you stay, you will always find something fantastic to do & see!! ENJOY!!!!!!!

EDIT: A red back spider will not kill you!!

help a baby stole my dingo
funnel web spiders are not in the outback they live in coastal areas from south of sydney up to southern old we have red back spiders which are the same as the black widow or same family any way.Snakes Australia has 9 out of the 10 most venomous snakes in the world.all the other animals are pretty harmless.Australia is a safe country the Only prob with australia is that it is very big and you have to travel great dis stances between cities.its a great country.the other great thing is we dont have guns.

The Australian funnel-web spider. Its the most lethal spider in the world, and can kill humans with one bite. Although they're only supposed to be found in the outback, they have been known to venture into homes...although the koalas are pretty cute.

- Drop Bears! Drop bears hide in trees and drop on your head when you walk underneath them
- Hoop Snakes! hoop snakes hold their tails in their mouths and roll down the hills in a hoop so they can catch you!
- Hillgropers! Hillgropers are deformed blood thirsty kangaroos that have one leg shorter than the other and they can break into your tent and eat you!
- Razerbacks! Razerbacks are giant killer pigs that can break into your house and eat you! Just watch the documentary "Razerback"

Its Razorback and it was a movie, with mechanical pigs, if that is dangerous so is Mel Gibbson Mad Max

Tazmanian devils, they sound prety dangerous.

Mel
The only animals that are of great danger and can seriously harm you are all in swamps in the northern part of Australia or in bush land.

If you play it smart you will be fine. You're more likely to get hit by a bus.
