I think it more depends on what you say to people than what accent you have.
I really don't mind most US accents.
I find it interesting to listen what people say for example -
In the US you root for your football team and sit on your fanny.
Here if you root for your football team it doesn't mean the same thing. To root means to have sex, and a fanny is a private part of the female body usually used while rooting. It's easy to give the wrong impression.

They hate "Yanks." If you have an American accent, that's the first thing they say to you. Then they start ranting about how much America sucks.

They're right. Because I was a naturalized citizen of America, I could tell I was being a jerk in Australia. I toned it down. I can imagine other Americans wouldn't, and probably acted even more rude.

The roots of why Americans are hated don't go very far.

If i were an Aussie, I'd hate it, but we have many different accents. I live in N/W Indiana and just south of Indianapolis they have accents that can be associated with WAY down south. Well that was pointless information that i just gave you, but hey, the aussie accents are awsome!

I can't stand the constant whine.

Iskandar
It's very annoying, well, the southern one anyway.

I like Boston and Chicago accent
I don't really like NY accent
I don't really like the west coast accent
I hate southern accent

QLD RULES

But its not the worst accent in the world.

Blondie:)
I think its sounds kool
very used to it because we mostly watch american movies

There are so many different American accents. Some of them are okay to listen to I guess, the North, esp the North East has a pretty inoffensive accent, but some of the southern ones are really annoying, grating, you know? The difference is that we hear American accents all the time on TV, so we're kinda over them, and don't consider them to be a novelty at all.

Yew!!! i love it, if you come to australia people would love you. why, are you coming to australia?

CJunk
The most frequent time I hear the American accent is when Mormons come to my door, and that can be too often.Other times was some christian pentecostal preachers (which at one point in time I actually liked them)
Apart from that I dont hear it much. Strangely enough, when i watch american movies or youtube vids i never notice it. Dont know what that's about.
anyway, I guess i have to say that i dont mind the american accent, if I dont notice it I must be cool with it right?

ps I dont like their religious imports. :)
