When we encounter Americans here we think they are great and we are curious about your country.
But our 'global' view of Americans is that they feel that they are the worlds political, economic and social leaders, and that they know what is best for the rest of the world. America as a nation has a poor reputation overseas because it is seen as insular and without appreciation of other countries and cultures.
Australians will love you. We love foreigners, as long as they don't bring their cultural or religious problems with them.
A tip: Don't compare something in Aus with something in the States.
Australians hate people who whinge or who say that something is not as good as 'back home'. And this is part of Australias inherent problem: Aussies don't like criticism. Especially from foreigners.
We like to think of ourselves as some sort of multicutural friendly melting pot, but we have our own global reputation as well. Hence you asking this question. |

Most could care less where you come from they pretty much treat people how they are treated so if you are polite to them they will return the favour if you rude to them then expect it back.
We did have a bit of a problem when Bush was President but then we had our own dipstick PM Howard at the time so we should know better than to judge a country by their leader.
Hope you have a good holiday we don't tip here but if you want to then that is fine as well. |

wow, you've asked this on a bad night :)
Normally the answers to this quite popular question are more positive.
Most people are happy to meet americans, we do have a dislike of the loud obnoxious yanks, but there's not too many of them.
You should not have a problem, we have many people from different nationalities touring australia but anyone who speaks english has an advantage.
enjoy your holiday. |

i dont know where all the other people who answered live!! You need to be very careful about your manners, Compared to Americans, Australians are big on "please" and "thankyou". Most Australians think americans are rude snobby bastards who think they own the world. (no offence)pay alot of interest in australians culture. So as long as your down to earth and use your manners, then you'll be fine :)
(and dont mention you like george bush lol)
Have a good time! |

Most are ok and welcoming to visitors. Australians are more arrogant, more loud and more obnoxious but some have not figured that out yet. They do not listen to what the rest of the world thinks of them..many say they prefer Americans. So in a nutshell, Australians and Americans are about as similar as two nationalities can get. |

They think you yanks are the best thing since sliced bread. Even if they pretend not to when the're amongst themselves. You're probably the second most liked in Australia after New Zealand. |
