I grew up in the same areas you did and still live there (although I'm only 23) - so I may end up moving soon ... anyway when I was younger I didnt really notice the "bad rep" of the area so much - it was just the way it was. But I'm now going to uni in Burwood and its funny how different they or we?! are .... Its actually not as bad as it used to be in some areas, theres a lot of new estates building up and its more of a "family" vibe now which is good. I cant imagine how different Sydney is to Sunshine!!! I work in Sunshine and you probably know about all the weirdos too!! lol |

I'm an American, but I just got off the phone with a friend who lives in the western suburbs, originally Hopper's, and she loves it there.
(I hope she doesn't see this. I told her I was probably going to bed... then I got distracted! lol) |

I try to stay as far away from the western suburbs as i can. I've only had bad experiences over there. I guess cos I'm used to the eastern suburbs. |

As a tourist of Melbourne I have seen Werribee, Geelong and Sunshine.
Sunshine had a very suburban feel to it, felt like a family oriented town.
Werribee and Geelong I thought were dumps, they really looked like the lower class of things.
Just a view from an outside eye, I may well be wrong. |

I grew up in the outer east (up in the hills)
Truth be told we always looked down our noses at the western suburbs (Yes very snobby of us I know) Mainly because the only time we went anywhere near them was on our way to holiday down the coast so all we saw was flat land, no trees & lots of industrial areas.
Mind you we didnt look down on the west as much as we looked down on the north west, that side of town always seemed very scary! |
