What do they call a bathroom/restroom in Australia?

My daughter is friends with a little girl from Australia (she's also lived in New Zealand). When she came to our house to play we asked her in a few different ways if she needed to use the bathroom/restroom/potty. We even tried 'lou'. So what should we have asked her? What's the correct terminology?
Thanks! :)

We would recognise all the words you used.
You could also try the following:

Toilet (try this first)
Lavatory "lav"
Loo
little girls room (or little boys room for men)

we have other names too, which probably aren't appropriate for a young girl, so I haven't mentioned those.

Do you need to use the toilet?
Do you need to go to the toilet?

Most kids would understand either of these questions.
We say toilet when we mean toilet.
Here a bathroom is for bathing and showering.

Toilet is the word. Dunny is an old fashioned word, but still in common use in some parts of the country. She would have been totally confused by bathroom or restroom. Loo is more commonly used in the UK than in Australia. If she's a very little girl you best bet is to be more direct and ask if she wants to wee or pee.

hey.babe
tiolet
bathroom
loo

there the ones I use

Toilet, dunny, toot, loo (although a young child probably won't know toot or dunny unless she's lived in the bush). Bathroom is for having a bath, restroom is for having a rest. So what do Americans call that thing you sit on and pee?

haha, Aussies say it like it is. "Toilet" is NOT a dirty word!! It's commonly accepted EVERYWHERE. The signs pointing to there even say the dreaded t-word.

"Loo" is kinda old fashioned/very polite. "Dunny" is sometimes used too, back in the old days it was the slang word for outhouse (or ourdoor bathroom I guess).

If you say bathroom here you look like a tool. No one says that unless they actually want a bath/shower/need to wash their hands.

LJG
It was disconcerting when I first got here, but it's called "the toilet."

Other terms are "the dunny" and "the loo".

The bathroom does not have a toilet in it, in most cases. When you are out at restaurants, though, it's still "the ladies' room" or "the rest room".

How old is this girl??
