G'day,
I am an immigrant and have been living in Melbourne for 16 years and never regret the move at all. I do not have Anglo-Saxon appearance, I speak English with an accent and I still feel like I am born in this country all along.
My neighbors are combinations of immigrants and true blue Aussies and we are getting along very well.
Living in a capital city, you can see ppl from all sides of the world. What? Did you mention food? Any kinds of food from all over the world is available, and very-very-very affordable ;)
Racism will always be there in any countries, but I definitely do not feel it here.
Hope this add to the already long lists of the good things of Australia :) |

Everything, we really are the lucky country. I have lived in various places around the world (currently the US) and the old song....I still call Australia home. Says it all. What I miss most is the food. We have such a huge variety due to multiculturalism. A wonderful health care system.....I know it's not perfect, but it will never be as bad as the US system. Vegemite, TimTams, Opera house, saying hello to complete strangers and having them say Hi back...hmmm that is wonderful. Great service, tolerance and I just love hating our daggy national anthem. Girt by sea. Very original!
Oh I miss home. From a displaced Aussie. |

I love the fact that WE make up what Australia is. For me, it's the flexability for it to be anything that I want it to be that makes Australia so appealing.
Oh, and sporting conquests. I love Australia because we kick the crap out of other nations in all sorts of sport! I'm one of those insane people you see in AFL cheer squads :O) |

I love being an aussie because it's the best country in the world. We have the freedom, no wars, best weather, great country, and the most friendly people here. AFL - Collingwood, meat pies, good beer, what's not to love!! |

I love the people and the feeling you get when you go to an Anzac Day march and remember our Diggers or when you are cheering for the Socceroos or when you celebrate Australia Day or watching little Sophie Delezio smile.
I remember a poem I heard the Green and Gold malaria that is what I love the goosebumps you get when you see your fellow Aussies do something to make you so glad you live here. |

I love being Australian because of the layed back lifestyle we have.
BUT
The legal systems sh*t, when you get your car stolen and the little so and so's get caught and let off scott free..
Then on a different day an of duty police officer witnesses your door getting riped of in a road rage incident and because they live over the border they get let off!
What is this country coming to? |
|

i love my garden
 |
one main reason is I can speak my mind without the fear of being locked up as in other countries. It is FREEDOM |

You can drive a Holden ute with a blue heeler in the back, or the front if you like.
You have a choice of Castlemaine-Perkins XXXX or Cascade or NT lager or Cairns Draught or Swan Lager or even, heaven forfend, West End and don't have to drink Foster's Lager like all those poor mugs overseas.
We don't have a president called G.W. Bush and we didn't have one called Bill Clinton either.
I don't have to show identification to anyone, not even police.
We can, and often do, tell politicians to get stuffed. Only trouble is we don't do it often enough.
We can, and often do, tell the boss to get stuffed. Only trouble is we don't do it often enough.
Most people don't give a tinker's damn if I think that most religion is a pious fraud.
If I want to support the Fludgetown Maniacs Rugby Rules Soccer team I can, even if I live somewhere else.
I don't have to join the Young Patriots/ Communists / Fascists/ Catholics/ Protestants/ Environmentalists/ Business Chamber etc if I don't want to.
I don't have to join some fiendishly expensive country club if I want to play tennis or any of a number of other sports.
You can still tell the environmentalists/ sports nuts/ neo-conservatives/ socialists/ libertarians/ anarchists/ anti-environmentalists/ philistines/ arts enthusiasts to get stuffed if you want to.
You can still send your kids to any school you damn well please.
You can threaten political canvassers with prosecution for trespass if they come knocking at your door. |

I love the people, the country, the beaches, the freedom of speech, the freedom of religion, the choice in education and the non-judgemental way of life. I also like the fact that we aren't at war and we live in peace. |

Fantastic local produce, specially the wine.
Great outdoor places, accessible free to all who make the effort to get there.
Sense of fairness and a culture of skepticism about authority and inherited position.
OTOH, I'm not so proud of our behaviour as tourists or towards anyone perceived as an outsider. |
