What do you think is Australia's best TV drama (still on air)? |
I was just curious, because I've been away from Australia for a long time and recently I was enjoying watching Mcleod's daughters on dvd that my sister brought me over when she was visiting. But now that series is over and there aren't any others that I had seen whilst in Oz that are still on. Because its just nice to see a little bit of home every now and then. So what do you think is Australia's best TV drama at the moment, or even from the last 4-5 years? What's it about and what channel is it on? And if I like the answer I might just buy a box set! lol |

I love Home and Away...
I use to watch Mcleod's Daughters religiously but I stopped watching it that b/coz it became more like Mcleods Nieces and a Friend... no Daughters... O_o |

I'm sure you know all about Neighbours and Home and Away, these ones have been running for 20+ years. Buuut, it's not for everone and if you're from Aus you probably already know of these. but they are on Channel Seven and Channel Ten.
I've kinda been enjoying a new Cop drama called Rush which is alright if you like that sort of program, it's shown by channel ten. but there is no box set obviously cos there is only one season so far!
There was a show on Channel 9 called Sea Patrol, based around a naval border patrol ship, it stars Lisa Mcune and other well knowns, I'm not sure ifthat's still running or not =s first season has ended but if your into that sort ofthing it's good.
Packed to therafters! it's great, a bit of comedy and everything, it's got Michael Caton from that old Aussie movie the Castle in it. It's really good value, I'd reccommend it above anything else cos it's funny and fresh! it's been showing on channel seen and like Rush is only in it's first season.
So yes, that's about the only three I've been enjoying really, hope you find something good =) |

Like everyone said Home and Away and Neighbours are the longest running soaps. I don't think they have box sets and since they're on Mon - Fri would take a while to get through.
I agree Packed to the Rafters is a great new show, it's only just season two but is great entertainment for the whole family.
Sea patrol has finished it's second season and shall be retuning this year. Rush has finished one season. They are both alright shows that I watch too, worth a watch.
My top recommendation is though: If you're after a good piece of drama I suggest buying Underbelly. We are just about to start the prequel in Australia which focuses on the drug trade in Griffith in the 70s and 80s. Underbelly (the first one) is about the gangland murders in Victoria in the late 80s early 90s. In fact it is still banned in Victoria as the cases against Carl Williams are still in the courts. Definitely a good watch I guarantee it. It was on WIN. |

I enjoyed watching ALL SAINTS it's about a hospital and it's staff channel 7. I also enjoy the latest series PACKED TO THE RAFTERS on channel 7 it's new and up to date with some laughs and relevant ideas of Aussies extended families.Another new series is SEA PATROL based on the Aussie Navy Patrol, if you are into Aussie music then SPICKS & SPECKS based on a quiz with guests on a pannel a new series now showing on the ABC it's good fun, all very enjoyable and have a great hook. Enjoy your viewing! |

Packed to the Rafters on channel 7- love it! I actually refused to watch it at first but became addicted through my housemate. It's just a really entertaining show!
Everyone also got excited about Underbelly but while it was good I think it was hyped up a bit due to several episodes being illegal in Victoria (because of ongoing court cases).
Although not currently on tv, I'd also recommend Summer Heights High (which was on the abc). |
