Cruises are WONDERFUL. Nothing against land travel, mind you. I've done lots of that, as well. But, if you've never cruised, it's definitely worth a look. You get totally pampered on cruises!
Tons of food, entertainment, shopping, etc. They're floating cities. The thing to remember about cruising is that it's a 'sampler platter'. You go to lots of ports, but only stay (usually) for a day at each place. I love to cruise, but it's not for everyone.
I don't see how anyone can get bored on a cruise ship, but you have to explore and look at your daily 'happenings' guide to see what you want to do 'today'.
I tried to find some cruises and cruise lines for you, but I had a lot of trouble. Seems everyone wants to GO to Australia, not sail out of there. ;-) I did find a couple of links for you, here, but your best bet is probably a good travel agent.

But, what I REALLY suggest, is that you peruse some cruise 'forums' or newsgroups. You can ask questions, read reviews and recommendations, get all kinds of great info, including tips on getting great prices.
You'll find lots of people who can answer this very question.
I've used them many times for many cruises. Most posters are very helpful and nice, although you will run into a few 'total snobs'. Ignore them. Some people will NEVER be satisfied. Click on a few of the links and look at topics of interest and jump
in and ask questions, if you like.
Here's a link to a bunch of cruise forums:

I went on a cruise to Oz in Dec 05 and then docked in Sydney and got a camper van lol
The cruise was a Princess cruise and if you don't have children it would have been fantastic........They expected the children to be in the kids club all day long, they were no family activities if they were not in the clubs.....
Cruises are fantastic they force you to relax, they are a bit rushed in some ways because you only have one day to visit each place........
I am going on a Royal Carribean cruise around the far east this Christmas
The camper van episode was giggles all the way we had a fantastic time the kids loved it, we stayed wherever we wanted for however long we wanted |

get to know the people, see the countryside, experience different things - campervan every time, on a cruise all you see are the people on the boat, and believe me there will be a lot of immature yahoos [idiots] on a cruise |

I'D GO FOR A CAMPERVAN BUT IF THERE ARE TWO OF YOU GO FOR A FOUR BERTH WITH LOO AND ELECTRICITY . BUT IF YOU CAN'T GET THAT YOU CAN FIND THAT MOST CAMPSITES IN OZ HAVE PRIVATE EN SUITE CABINS YOU PULL UP BESIDE. THEY HAVE A SHOWER/TOILET AND HANDBASIN AND YOU CAN HOOK UP TO ELECTRICITY. YOU CAN ALSO WASH YOUR "SMALLS". ALL THE CAMPSITES WE FOUND IN AUSTRALIA HAD GAS OR ELECTRIC BBQS AND PICNIC AREAS AND WASHING UP FACILITIES SO YOU COULD BE AS SOCIABLE AS YOU LIKE AND MEET NEW PEOPLE OR HAVE YOUR OWN PRIVATE PARTY. AND COOK IN YOUR CAMPER. yOU CAN TAKE OFF IN THE MORNING AND NOT KNOW WHERE YOU WILL BE STOPPING AT NIGHT. THE ROADS ARE ALMOST EMPTY EXCEPT IN THE CITIES. THERE FABULOUS EVER CHANGING LANDSCAPES. THE FLORA AND FAUNA ARE STUNNING. PLAY THE GAME "LETS IDENTIFY THE ROADKILL". EVERY LITTLE TOWNSHIP YOU COME TO THE LOCALS ARE FRIENDLY, HELPFUL AND INTERESTING..... AND THE LOCAL BEERS DON'T HURT ----TOO MUCH.
I'D RECOMMEND THE HIRE FIRM "MAUI" FOR CAMPERVANS-
EXCELLENT SERVICE. IF YOU ARE A FREE SPIRIT WHO LIKES ADVENTURE THE CAMPERVAN IS THE PREFERRED OPTION. IF YOU LIKE BEING HERDED AROUND GO FOR THE CRUISE. |
