Great idea. Melbourne is the fashion capital, the food capital, and the wine capital of Australia. Great nightlife, Great shops, awesome people, many different nationalities.

It's great if you have mates to go places with. Like moomba, music festivals, vic market, restaurants, brunswick street, great beaches. Oh and since your coming to Melbourne, get into Aussie Rules Football. Everyone goes for a team here, go see someone play, it great.

I have been to both places, you can't compare Los Angles with Melbourne.

Melbournes a great city, a very lively city with lots of things to do. you wont get bored!
But the weather can get annoying, rainy one day, hot the next. but you get used to it :)

That's a long way and a big difference. I myself haven't been there, but Melbourne is really good choice for a city in Australia. Some say it's the fashion capital of Australia and has the best markets and resturants.

from my view moving from one state to another state withou reason is none less, i prefer to be with my community unless something force you, regarding to your question for me is the same

to be honest... stay in cal, its much cheaper than melbourne and the people in cal are much nicer as well, i am in melbourne and i have lived here all my life and i am an aussie, and thats why i am moving from melb aus to california, melbourne is getting way to expensive to live, and there isnt much to do at all anymore stay in cal more to do there,

Melbourne is experiencing a few problems at the moment- earthquakes, water restrictions, bad rail system, severe bushfires, job losses, drought etc. Hopefully things will get better in the future.
Also it can be really cold in winter. Try choosing a city up north like Brisbane, Sydney or Darwin.

in case you haven't heard there have been heaps of bushfires in Victoria and more recently there was an earthquake

its your choice i recommend Queensland or Sydney. :P
