What do you think of shark attacks?

Why is the media making these sharks out to be horrible monsters that should all be tracked down and killed? And for what? Swimmers know the risks when they go for a swim, we are in their territory and we are food.

Do you believe all sharks that have attacked humans should be hunted and pointlessly killed?
Additional Details
its almost like theyr're treating the sharks as criminals... its their nature to go for food in their territory! they're doing nothing wrong

Of course not. They're as much a member of our Earth as you and I, and hunting down and killing them would be absurd. Even killing a shark that killed a human would be an ill-thought out idea - it didn't do it out of malice. However, typically, humans aren't food for sharks, at least in the case of a great white. If a shark is hungry enough it may eat a human, but there's definitely more of a taste for seals and such in them. Surfers are often mistaken for seals due to the shape of their boards, which is why you hear about so many shark attacks on them.

DARYL
thats a hard one

why do dogs get put down if it kills somebody

Hank
Yep, you know the danger when you swim in the water so take it for granted that the shark has right of way.

Pocket Protectorate
Because Beach Resorts would lose a lot of money if their customers got eaten while swimming the surf of their beaches...

We swim in their backyard so we have to accept what happens to us and just be careful.
As Daryl said dogs do get put down for attacking someone but not if that person enters their backyard.

I think most of the time it is not the shark's fault. It usually is the human swimmer who provoke the attacks -- or they might have been bleeding or swimming too close or just panicking when they see sharks. Just like snakes, I think the sharks are more scared of humans than humans are of them.
Having said that... I think once the shark or any other animal (including humans) who has "tasted" blood, should be hunted and killed. Once they've done one, they most likely will do again. Just like a human killer/criminal, should be imprisoned for life or put to death, sharks or dogs or any other animals should be put to death as well... Just my opinion...

All these shark attacks is making it easier to find space on the beach.

absolutely not! Usually sharks move on anyway, and usually it's mistaken identity (well that is debatable, it makes sense though to me)..and we do far more damage (on purpose) to sharks than they to us.
We aren't even all that palatable to sharks from what I understand anyway. But you're right, when we dive, surf, snorkel, swim, etc...we know the risks. And we can greatly reduce the chances by following some basic guidelines like not swimming near fishing, in murky water , at dusk/evening, etc. Everyone should find out the risks (what types of sharks are known to be in the area, etc) & before going out. And be aware if you go , that you are in their territory..invading their space.
I do think if there is an isolated incident where there is a 'rogue' shark that is hanging out at a particular beach/area and attacking humans, it needs to be dispatched. I don't like that, but there's not much choice i that case. I think this is a very rare occurrence though.
