What does ANZAC Day mean to you?

For me, it means a time of deep reflection of the ones who sacrificed their lives to make the country a better place who have been lost. Lest We Forget.

From a great man , who after loosing over a million man in his straggle to save his people and country from the invading forces,, M,K, Ataturk,(RIP) still had these words for the Australian nation,,

THOSE HEROES THAT SHED THEIR BLOOD
AND LOST THEIR LIVES... YOU ARE
NOW LYING IN THE SOIL OF A FRIENDLY
COUNTRY. THEREFORE REST IN PEACE.
THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE
JOHNNIES AND MEHMETS TO US
WHERE THEY LIE SIDE BY SIDE HERE IN
THIS COUNTRY OF OURS... YOU, THE
MOTHERS, WHO SENT THEIR SONS FROM
FARAWAY COUNTRIES WIPE AWAY YOUR
TEARS; YOUR SONS ARE NOW LYING IN
OUR BOSOM AND ARE IN PEACE. AFTER
HAVING LOST THEIR LIVES ON THIS LAND
THEY HAVE BECOME OUR SONS AS WELL.'

For me its the most sacred day of the year. I honour my fathers memory with candles burning, incense and his medals next to his war enlistment photo. I am an only child and my dad passed away more than 30 years ago, when I was 15. The day brings tears to me but this year I sent a message through the Defense Force website to all the troups overseas that they come home safely to their loved ones and friends. Lest We Forget

ANZAC Day is a very important and emotional day for my family, we have a strong military heritage.
It's a day to remember and be thankful for the sacrifices, both large and small, made by all who have gone before us.
Those who have made our homeland a safe haven in a troubled world.

We can never repay them but we can honour them, thank them and remember what they did.

For me it is a sad day, to remember all those who have given their lives so that we can live in this wonderful country of ours,I watch the march until I cant anymore as I am crying too much.It is wonderful to see the kids walking with either their Dad or Granddad and I am so glad that the RSL finally let them.Makes you think that all the problems we think we have are pretty irrelevant aren't they.

Unfortunately for many Australians it just means another day at the beach.

For me I remember a couple of my mates who were killed in Vietnam. Kerry in 1969 (Regular Army, aged 24) and Robin in 1971 (Conscript, aged 21). I remember them almost every day, but particularly today.
