I'll give you the average minimum and maximum temperatures for various cities here.
These are for July averages, the middle of our winter.
Bear in mind these are averages it can be a little warmer or cooler depending on the day.
Usually, when we are not in drought times, winter is rainy in the south and summer is rainy in the north of the country.
We do get snow but not in urban areas, not like you get where you are. Normally it's only in the Australian Alps and in Tasmania. The snow fields of the Australian Alps, the Snowy Mountains, such as Mount Hotham, Thredbo, Perisher and many more are very popular during our wintertime.
Darwin our most northerly city:
Max - 29 ºC - 85 ºF
Min - 21 ºC - 69 ºF
Brisbane:
Max - 20 ºC - 68 ºF
Min - 10 ºC - 50 ºF
Sydney:
Max - 16 ºC - 61 ºF
Min - 8 ºC - 46 ºF
Melbourne:
Max - 12 ºC - 53 ºF
Mon - 6 ºC - 43 ºF
Hobart, our most southerly city:
Max - 11 ºC - 52 ºF
Min - 6 ºC - 42 ºF |

Of course some areas in the southern half of Australia get snow, although there hasn't been much this year in the ski resorts so far.
I live on the east coast where winter days are beautiful, in the low 20s celsius, and nights fairly chilly, down to two or three sometimes but more usually a minimum of about seven/eight C. But if you head inland from here you start to climb immediately and once you're up in the hills it gets really cold at night. Check out Ebor, NSW, Australia on Google Earth. They had -10C a couple of nights ago and in Armidale they had snow very early this winter - during the day!
Up in the northern parts of Australia I don't believe they ever get snow, although it gets very cold in the desert at night.
If you want to check out where the Snowy Mountains are, put Thredbo or Jindabyne into your Earth or Google Maps browser. |

Some areas are a little warm (like where I am in Queensland) but states down south are freezing and some parts snow :-) |

It's differant everywhere. In Tassie it gets cold, it can even snow, it hasn't in 25 years, but it can and mostly does in the mountains. Sydney is a mixed bag, it gets chilly and rains for weeks, but this year we got really lucky. It has been nice and sunny, not too cold. Places up North, like Darwin are pretty hot and stay that way. Queensland is hot too, but it can rain. |

It's a more temperate winter. In the southern cities, a really cold night will get close to 0c which rarely occurs except in Canberra which is inland and a little higher up. Usually, nighttime temps range between 7-10c and daytime temps from 13-18c.
We have no snow but we have a chilling wind which will spa the warmth from your body in a trice if you're not warmly dressed. |
