Tooheys (not touheys) beer and VB.

We dont have many traditional drinks, no fancy cocktail or anything like that.

Of course we have local wineries that produce a good drop but its nothing you cant get somewhere else.

You're so lucky to be going! I went for two weeks last March and pretty much all I want to do is go back!

Anyways, everyone there will tell you to drink beer to survive the heat. If you like lighter beers, try Victoria Bitter(order a VB), or Touhey's New. If you like dark beers(think guiness), then ask for a Touhey's Old which is amazing.

Otherwise, Australia is generally known for great wine. I got a chance to try an Australian port while i was there and it was great, albeit pricey($20 a glass).

Another drink I had there which was a heavily mixed drink but was terrific was called a "Great Barrier Reef". I'm not sure if it was just that bar's specialty or if you can get it anywhere. It was layered liquor and juices that started off blue on the bottom and faded to red at the top and was supposed to look like the sun setting over the ocean. There was pineapple juice, blue curaco(spelling), orange juice, and a few others to add a kick.

Have a great time! Wish I was going back!

Definately would be Victorian Bitter (beer)
But it's not one of the better tasting beers, you'll need to try Carlton Draught, James Squire, Crown Lager.
There are a lot of great wines, too many to name. There are many wineries you can visit in every state.
Bundaberg Rum (with coke) is my favourite drink and can be bought is most places around the country (tastes better on tap).
Just go out and ask for an aussie drink and see what you get!!!
