If he's into music - a didjeridoo would be a great gift, but authentic ones are quite expensive.
If you're on a budget and not from a surf-obsessed nation - any surf-related merchandise would probably be a hit - Look for Billabong, Ripcurl, etc.
Aboriginal Art Y-shirts or T-shirts with the Aboriginal flag.
If he's got a warped sense of humour - a little something in cane toad (ewww- wallets, key rings, etc) might entertain him.

I would go for something typically Australian like a boomerang or a small didgeridoo - you can get them quite reasonably priced from gift shops. Don't worry about finding one - they are literally around every corner in Australia! |

get him a kangaroo nut-sack. They are real leather pouches which were Kangaroo's nut sack (scrotum). A very funny and interesting gift. You are meant to put jewellery in.
